Today we’d like to introduce you to Stormy a.k.a. Stormy ATL Monroe.
Stormy was a small tropical depression birth off the coast of Trinidad & Tobago in the West Indies. She continued tracking far north, gaining momentum through the Gulf of Mexico making landfall in New Orleans, Louisiana. Wreaking havoc across the Southeast and now residing in Atlanta, Stormy has made it known that she is here for the win!
This New Orleans-raised artist is taking the world of EDM by storm and leaving no apologies. Athlete by Trade, Artist by Nature, Stormy is not looking for an easy way into the industry. Her unique sonic blend and creative approach of infusing POP elements with Hip-Hop culture has her crossing demographics, mixing genres, blurring lines and creating the “new” normal!
Has it been a smooth road?
Becoming one of Atlanta’s first known EDM Artist definitely put me in a lane of my own , especially being a female of color. Many music execs have their eyes on me to be one of the next big acts coming out of ATL, This however offered very unique challenges being one of the first. Creating your own lane has its perks, but the struggle was creating an initial fan base. Like all new music, upon first listen they tend to categorize my music into other genres, because Atlanta has not been known as an EDM market. This posed one of the biggest challenges for my sound initially and made it difficult for music fans to appreciate. Almost 2 years later, sleepless nights, campaigning and building a strong team, I’m finally able to see some fruits of my labor, My music has various transitions, build-ups and drops taking you on a journey I can only describe as the “PERFECT STORM”.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I see my industry blurring the genre lines over the next decade. My music is about creativity and allowing the track to select me. Sometimes that means infusing elements from different genres and cultures to create the perfect storm.
What would you say has been the biggest challenge for you over the course of your career?
My biggest challenge has been gaining respect in a male dominated industry. I am continuously being inspired by the strength of the women in this industry. I want to create the blueprint for independent artist (girls/women) to become successful in their crafts without selling their souls.
What would you tell someone who is just starting out?
My advice to those just starting is to 1. Be Patient 2. Originality is Key 3. Stay in your lane 4. take calculated risks 5. Always enjoy what you do!
