Today we’d like to introduce you to Jared Knox.
Jared, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I’ve grown up in a Christ-loving family that has supported me, my older brother, and younger sister in all of our endeavors. I’ve always enjoyed playing several sports throughout my life and due to my family’s love for Auburn football I currently am attending Auburn University. My free time is dominated by my hobbies, which include playing sports, fishing, hunting, and of course, drawing/painting. For the first time, thanks to many commissions and dk gallery in Marietta, I have been able to really focus on art and make it a job for myself.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I tend to focus on things I appreciate in my art, like important figures in my community or on a broader scale, or natural scenes. Subjects ranging from dogs to elk to trout are commonly viewed with my art because these are the things that fascinate me. Upon viewing my portraits, I hope that my audience can escape with a nostalgic memory of the portrayed character. I hope that my animal or scene-focused paintings provide a momentary escape for the viewer into a raw, one on one experience with the subject.
Artists rarely, if ever pursue art for the money. Nonetheless, we all have bills and responsibilities and many aspiring artists are discouraged from pursuing art due to financial reasons. Any advice or thoughts you’d like to share with prospective artists?
I am extremely young to be in this business, but my advice would be to do what is necessary to support you and your family, but never lose your artistic side. If I do not end up being a full-time artist, I will still always make time to satisfy that need to create artwork.
What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
I was first exhibited in dk gallery on the Marietta square during their Popstar show through the month of June this year. Since I am a full-time student at Auburn, I’m focused on engineering classes however I still find time to do commissioned artwork upon request.
