Today we’d like to introduce you to Klaudia Jakubiak.
Klaudia, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I am also known as The Travel Critic, and I am a travel + lifestyle blogger who showcases the best places to eat, stay and play. I started my brand about 3 years ago as I wanted a creative outlet and escape from the 9-5p world. I’ve always been fascinated by how much I can learn from other cultures and how much we are all truly alike. I believe travel is the best form of education because you learn a lot about others but primarily you learn a lot about yourself. I have collaborated with brands such as Airbnb, Grubhub, and Bar Taco just to name a few. Currently, I am on a journey traveling throughout Europe and beyond and have decided to fully focus on my travels.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It’s definitely challenging because the life of an influencer or blogger is similar to the wild, wild west – you really don’t know what to expect and there aren’t very many rules. I struggled most with monetizing and pitching myself to brands. Since there’s an influx of influencers and bloggers, it can be difficult to get the brand deals you’d like. But, it’s a matter of identifying why you’re different and how you stand out. My advice to other women is to network and talk to others who are pursuing what you’d like. I believe it’s important to get a perspective from someone else in the industry, so you have a better idea of what you can anticipate as well as have someone to ask questions.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into The Travel Critic story. Tell us more about the business.
My goal is to inspire others to pursue their dreams and travel the world while focusing on self-development and well-being. I specialize in curating content to showcase the best places to eat, stay and play in each city that I’m traveling to. Currently, I work with small businesses to help them jumpstart their content in the social media space.
As a brand, I’m most proud of the collaborations I’ve had and the individuals I’ve met through my social media platforms. What sets me apart as a brand is being relatable throughout my journey, I show the good, bad and ugly of traveling, not just a highlight reel of my experience.
Do you have a lesson or advice you’d like to share with young women just starting out?
Speak your truth. Know yourself and have awareness of what aligns with you and your brand and stick to that. Don’t ever deviate from who you are because that causes inauthenticity. In a world full of filters, it’s important to be authentic.
