Meet CARLA.

Today we’d like to introduce you to CARLA.

CARLA, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started rapping at age 12 on an app called, “Rap Rivals” but didn’t take it seriously until age 19. I started making beats at age 15, started perfecting them at age 18 when I started to invest in my music. Music has always been a part of my life growing up, so the path I’ve chosen was somewhat inevitable. I played the trombone in high school, the first chair in the symphonic band for 2 years until I got disinterested in the trombone. What made me start taking music seriously was a college organization known as, “Random Acts of Poetry.” Through this organization, I’ve met many talented local artists that inspired me to start perfecting my craft and putting my music out there.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, some of my struggles still continue today. Starting out, there was the uncomfortable aspect of using my voice and learning to be confident in what I speak. Not only would I have to gain confidence, I’d have to conquer my anxiety when it comes to performances and showcasing my skills. To this day I still have struggles such as perfecting my mixing skills, marketing my music to gain a following and keeping my anxiety in check when it comes to new opportunities.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about CARLA. – what should we know?
I am an all around artist as a whole. I specialize in singing/songwriting, producing, mixing and mastering, as well as photography. I am most proud of being able to stick to the many interests I’ve had as a kid, perfecting and owning my talents to be able to do most of what I do on my own. What would set me apart from others would be my ability to record, produce and mix my own music. It would also be how I supersede being placed in one genre and can switch it up anytime.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Consistency! Consistency is key to having a good work ethic. You have to be consistent to develop as an artist/entrepreneur, or nothing will get accomplished!! Through consistency, you will be able to learn what works and what does not work so your execution will have a greater impact.
