Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Cobb.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Jessica. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started a pet sitting business in PA back in 2011 that took off and became successful pretty quickly. I owned it for about 3 years when my husband and I decided to move back to his hometown in Georgia. I sold the business and off we went. Once here, I had to start over from scratch with my pet sitting business, under a new name of course, and began to grow it. Owning a boarding/daycare facility was always something we had in the back of our minds as a 5-year plan sorta thing.
An opportunity presented itself when we heard about an existing boarding/grooming facility in town was closing and the owner was retiring. We decided we couldn’t pass it up and within about a month’s time, we found ourselves expanding my sole pet sitting business to a more encompassing pet care business that would be run by my husband and myself. This includes boarding, grooming and in the very near future, our dog daycare service will be starting up!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I don’t think opening or expanding any business is ever a smooth road completely. And with our timeline being so short from hearing about the opportunity to open the doors, it was a whirlwind! In a matter of a few weeks from making our decision to move forward, we unlocked the door to our new 6,000 sq ft. commercial facility and got to work on a significant facelift and the logistics of it all.
There were a lot of moving parts, big and small, that we just had no idea about and weren’t even sure how to go about some of them. But with very little sleep, a lot of hard work and help from friends and family, we got the doors opened within about a month’s time. There is still a lot that we want to improve inside and outside of the facility, but we take it one day at a time and will keep working at it until we’ve got it just right.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Zoomies Pet Care story. Tell us more about the business.
Zoomies Pet Care is all about giving you, the owner, options that will best fit your pet.
Dogs are unique in their personalities and temperaments and while a younger puppy may love coming to boarding and playing with other dogs in a group setting, a senior or less socialized dog may prefer to stay in the comfort of their own home and not have their routines disturbed. Because we can now offer both, we feel that definitely sets us apart from the majority of pet care companies. It’s usually one service or the other and we are proud to offer both and help you determine what is the best fit for your dog.
We also pride ourselves on our professionalism and the quality of our care. We have been asked so many times if we are a franchise because of our cohesive look, the modern client systems we have in place for both our pet sitting and boarding/grooming clients and the unique services we provide. Some of the services that really set us apart from others would be in our grooming department.
Our lead groomer, Jamie, is super talented and has 10+ years of experience with hand scissoring, all breed standard cuts and even with some creative styling such as Asian fusion that is gaining in popularity. We also offer a variety of spa services for your pooch that each serves a specific health and wellness purpose. Treatments such as mud baths for dogs with skin allergies and sensitivities, paw soaks for irritated/smelly paws, blueberry facials, etc. are available to our client’s dogs to help them feel the best possible
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I am really not a believer in luck. I am a believer in hard work and taking risks. Everything we have currently is because we have worked and worked hard for it. And when opportunities have presented themselves, we have jumped in with both feet. You never know for sure whether it’s going to pay off or be a big mistake but in our case, it has always turned out well and we couldn’t be happier with the success that we’re seeing!
