Meet Gwinnett Photographer: Ryan Jefferson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ryan Jefferson.

Ryan, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I was 16 years old and aspiring to be an artist of some sort but I was unsure where to exactly focus on because I was a fan of all forms of art. I soon discovered that photography was something that sparked my interest. At 16 years old I asked my mother to help me purchase the computer programs Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Lightroom and to purchase a Nikon for myself for Christmas. My mother believed in my vision and soon provided assistance. I practiced my craft all throughout high school, doing free photoshoots and shadowing photographers at small events. I then began to do commission photoshoots for individual clients and have done everything from sports photography to concert photography. I currently have taken an interest in the urban community to try and influence the youth in a positive manner by providing a different outlook on life through my lens.

Has it been a smooth road?
There is no easy path in a craft such as this, I have had some successes but I have also had a fair amount of challenges; with that being said what doesn’t kill me makes me stronger. I have had experiences when reaching out to a potential client did not pan out the way I exactly expected but I rather receive a response that is not going to expand my work than no response at all. This is because that means they took the time out to view my art and give a response back, you don’t get that from everyone.

What role has luck had in your life and career?
In my opinion, luck has no role in my life and career, it is all owed to God. He has placed me in the right position with the right people, even if it is only for the time being to allow me to grow how I need to.

Do you feel like there are certain traits that increase the likelihood of success?
Genuineness is most important to my success. If you aren’t genuine with anything that you do in life, why do it? It is almost hand in hand with passion in my opinion and I feel like once you put your true effort and care into something you get the full effect of whatever it is you’re attempting to create.

What do you love about our city and what do you dislike?
I like the diversity, especially as an artist because there are so many different artists within this city that the world is so unaware of. It’s insane almost how many talented artists reside here. The least thing I like about our city is the distance things are away from each other.
