Today we’d like to introduce you to Kevin Bongang.
Kevin, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I have always had an interest in art ever since I can remember. After attending an art foundation type high school, I received some Scholarships to go to Savannah College of Art, where I majored in Illustration. In college, I fell in love with Street Art and started hitting the streets for inspiration. One thing led to another, and I eventually started getting a lot of Mural commissions.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
My growth in art has been a fun exploration and long road. Being a full-time artist is all I have ever wanted to do, so giving up was never an option! I won’t say I have had many struggles in my journey… more like growing pains and learning to take my art more seriously.
Bongang Art – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Bongang is my last name, most people don’t realize that, and am an Illustrator inspired by: bright colors, old cartoons like “Cow and Chicken” and Looney Tunes, African and Street Art.
Specializing in fun colorful illustrations and patterns either in a digital format or more surface related imagery like outdoor murals and hand custom shoes for example. I love to include words that inspire in my murals and get a lot of joy watching the way people interact with my murals and how they can bring happiness and positiveness into ones’ day.
Working as a team with my wife Britney Bongang, who is a photographer, captures my murals and work process on a day to day basis and also manages my calendar and travel to ensure i stay focused. If not i would play with Legos all day.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success is being happy with your life, and being and inspiration to the people around you. Giving every day your best, even when it’s not your best day.
