Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Speed.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Being creative is actually my family business. My father is a retired writer and producer and has worked to create an amazing legacy that naturally I was drawn towards and followed in his footsteps. My mother always kept me in some type of creative after-school program, whether it was radio club, dance class, singing lessons… I’ve always had a passion for storytelling and creating art.
I began my entertainment career in front of the camera, modeling and acting since I was a kid, developing into radio and becoming a media personality, but I also had an eye for film and photography. I graduated college with a degree in electronic media and film. I grew up in Detroit where hustle is just a part of life; everyone is chasing a dream and reaching for the stars.
Detroit also has a wonderful creative community (much like Atlanta) that has really served to foster my love of art and create innovative ways to combine all the things I love: photo, film, music…. and I formed my multi-media company “The Speed Brand”. I moved to Atlanta about three years ago to continue to expand my reach as a creative and my platform as a Brand.
Since starting my creative journey, I’ve produced content for everyone from CBS Radio to small business owners, bloggers and event promoters among others. Today I’m enjoying the creative scene in Atlanta and seems like I meet amazing creatives every day. In between working gigs, I create my own passion projects that keep me busy!
Has it been a smooth road?
I don’t think that any creative lifestyle is a smooth road. To be honest, pursuing a career in a creative field is filled with uncertainty and struggle… lol the only thing smooth is usually your love of the art which is a constant reminder of why you do it.
I’ve had a few personal struggles: everything from relocating to a new place and starting over (Especially because I was doing well in Detroit… everyone knew me, but I was starting to feel like a big fish in a small pond and relocating to ATL was a challenge rebuilding to be bigger and better).
Also, of course until you get the consistency of constant business… it can be hard to stay afloat. Luckily I’m getting to a point where I’m able to maintain a flow.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into The Speed Brand story. Tell us more about the business.
#TheSpeedBrand is a multi-media + Entertainment company that develops and distributes specialized programs/projects that spotlight the works of artist and the creative community through various platforms such as digital media, art, film, musical showcase, performance art, community/social events and various forms of social media.
Our goal is to provide both entertainment, education and a tremendous experience for all involved. We are different from others because we combine the old with the new. I like to call it “soul gold” we create art that makes you feel good! Reminds you of your favorite song but with a new twist!
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I think that things will continue to be more web-based and more immediately available. I think that things are all about the convenience of the user experience. People like the fact that they can roll over in bed, grab their phone and have everything at their fingertips…
I believe that that trend will continue and the emergence of more people who always wanted to do something creative but felt that if they didn’t have a big company behind them, they would fail… those days are over.
Now big companies are seeking the people who create their own content and attach themselves to the creative as opposed to the other way around.
