Meet Zeus Luby of Olympian Physiques in Buckhead

Today we’d like to introduce you to Zeus Luby.

Zeus, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
From my earliest years, I’d always been fascinated with human anatomy and muscular development. As young and as tiny as I was, I consistently tried to push my body to its absolute limits. I also had an uncle in the marines who was heavily into bodybuilding. He became my inspiration as well as the person I aspired to surpass. I told him as a boy “One day I’m gonna be bigger and stronger than you unc.”

Before my family could afford an official weight set, I was so thirsty for gains as a preteen; I fashioned my own lifting station from household items. I used a broomstick with phone book filled plastic bags hanging on either end as a weighted barbell. I also used a family-sized water cooler as my bench. I was bench pressing and curling the broomstick-phonebook concoction on a daily basis. Lol

Once I finally got some real iron, I was a man on fire! I had no guidance, no tutelage; therefore I had no idea what I was doing. When I initiated my training, I was only working chest and biceps for at least two years. Most people perform an average of 3 to 5 sets per exercise. Some go a bit harder and shoot for 7. In my early years of lifting, I was doing 30 sets per exercise! I was insane! Lol.

I officially began lifting at the age of 14. Two years later I got a semi-dream job at a local gym. The awesome part was the free membership.🙌🏽The not so awesome part was having to clean the locker rooms.🤢 It was at this job I realized how outlandish and dangerous my 30 sets per exercise were.

One of the trainers saw me lifting and asked me about my program. When I told him how high my volume was he was dumbfounded. He told me I’d injure myself with that blueprint, so I dropped it to 25 sets. He flipped again. I dropped to 20.

Once I got to 10 sets, I told him I refused to go any lower no matter the consequences. I’ve been doing ten sets per exercise ever since, which gave birth to the uniquely challenging fitness regimen I follow and teach today. I’ve trained athletes in high school, college, the NBA, the NFL, and Olympic hopefuls. They’ve all said they’ve never experienced training as rigorous as mine.

My program’s potency is due to the combination of extensive sets, high reps, and the interwoven cardiovascular exercise. I put more focus on extensive cardio than most other trainers. I myself run and an average of 5-15 miles outdoors multiple times per week.

That coupled with my heavy lifting breaks from common gym tradition. That heavy focus on cardio stems from my battle with asthma and my family’s history of diabetes. At 18 asthma hit me out of nowhere. I went from perfectly healthy to wheezing and gasping for air one day.

My family tried to get me to use a rescue inhaler, but I refused. I wouldn’t allow asthma to beat me. So I developed some breathing exercises to tame my attacks and started running to strengthen my lungs. I fell out the first few runs due to pushing myself too hard. But I came back stronger every time until I ran my way out of having asthma.💪🏽

I remember my mother telling my siblings and I that the doctor assured her, one or all of us would eventually develop diabetes. I was terrified. So a portion of my daily motivation to stay in shape is to break the cycle of sickness and poor health in my family and start healthier traditions.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I’ve always made all my clients the same promise: I’ll never push you harder than I push myself. I tell them this to let them know whatever they may experience, I’ve been through it and felt it as well. That’s how hard I train myself.

Keeping that message true means training exceptionally hard and staying in exceptional shape. And there have been periods where staying in top shape has been extremely difficult. The most challenging period was during my 16-month custody battle.

My stress levels were off the charts, and I was barely making it through my days with my sanity intact. I had to dig deep to keep my training on track. Thankfully I made it out with full custody of my princess and good health.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Olympian Physiques – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
My business is fitness based. I teach my clients how to live a better life through comprehensive health and wellness education and instruction. I’m known for my ability to truly learn and connect with my clients in order to create a tailored program for their specific needs.

I’m most proud of the care put into each client’s progress and the unmistakable dedication to their success. What sets me apart is the attention given to the mental/emotional inner workings of my clients.

As a life coach, I utilize that expertise to pinpoint the root cause of their fitness issues.

In most cases, if a person isn’t taking proper care of their health, there’s a mental/emotional issue that needs to be addressed in order to help them get fit and stay fit.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
My future plans are to expand into cutting-edge equipment and fitness facility development. I’m also a product developer, so I have some concepts I intend to patent and bring to market that I feel will be great additions to the preexisting options.
