Check out Paul Conroy’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Paul Conroy.

Paul, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I consider myself very lucky to have fallen into the world of theatre. It wasn’t until my senior year of high school that I joined the drama club and started performing in shows, and it was really in college that I became completely immersed in the art form. From that point on, I was hungry to experience everything I could that would expand my horizons on stage and off. From then, until today, it all seems like a blur.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
First and foremost, I think theatre exists to entertain. Without an audience to experience a show, theatre would not be theatre. In addition to that, I think good theatre can start a conversation; and that is something that I try to achieve with every show that I work on. It can be a good conversation, it can be a bad one – but theatre should invoke feelings inside someone, who has just experienced it in a communal setting. Leaving the darkened theatre, my hope is that those people talk to the people they saw the show with or someone when they get home. They can love it, hate it, relate to it, not understand it – no matter the reaction they should talk and think about what they experienced.

What do you know now that you wished you had learned earlier?
I think theatrical artists need to take almost every opportunity they are given and understand that not everyone is in the spotlight 100% of the time. Theatre is a collaborative art form, so even though someone may not be on stage doesn’t mean they are not important. It’s beyond useful to be skilled in several areas of theatrical production, so you can constantly work on productions – regardless of the position.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
I am the Founder and Producing Artistic Director or Out Front Theatre Company, located in West Midtown Atlanta. Most of the shows I direct take place there, but I also direct at other theaters in the Atlanta area. Everything that we are doing at Out Front is online at outfronttheatre.com
