Today we’d like to introduce you to Adeline Hill.
Adeline, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’ve always had a love for music. I grew up in a very creative family who understood and encouraged creativity in any way shape or form. I know now that it was such a blessing to have family in my life that cheered me on in that way. The briefest version of my story is that when I was about nine years old, my dad got me a nice keyboard. I remember being so enthralled that I sat down right away and wrote my first “real” song. Needless to say, that was that. I became so in love with writing music. I was that kid who rushed home from school because I could not wait to sit down at my little keyboard and write a song about my day. I loved the way that a melody could compliment lyrics and create something beautiful. Looking back I was pretty much always at the piano writing something new. And as I grew, my songs grew with me. When I turned 15, 16, I began writing about things in my life that seemed to be more real-life concepts. I started writing about boys, love, growing up. I started to feel things much more strongly than I did when I was 13. I realized that my love for music was much more than just a fun hobby.
I truly loved the process of songwriting and just how powerful music was. Writing songs that people could relate to quickly became something I treasured and sought after. That’s when I started envisioning myself having an actual career in the music industry! I fought after that dream and eventually decided to pursue a career in music full-time after high school. Since graduating, I have felt so much freedom creatively to write not only for myself but for other genres/people and it’s been amazing to watch my career start to unfold right in front of my eyes. I released my debut EP, “Moments to Memories,” on July 6, 2018, and it has been a beautiful thing to watch people receive and listen to it in over 65 countries around the world. I know that music will always be a constant in my life and I am so grateful for that. I believe that we were all placed on this earth with a God-given talent, and I know that if you know what that talent is, you need to use it for good. I believe that my God-given talent is music, and I desire to bring light into an industry that can feel very dark. I am so grateful for the way that my story has unfolded so far because I know that sometimes small beginnings are the best beginnings. As I continue to gig locally, write songs from my heart, and hope to encourage people all in the process of that- I will wait expectantly to see what exciting things will happen next!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
In July of 2017, I sat in a busy coffee shop and decided not to go to college after graduating high school, in order to truly pursue a full-time career in music. I was ecstatic about the idea of having my whole life revolve around something I loved doing, and of course, that decision was something that I prayed about for months on end. I felt a peace to be able to pursue that specific calling. But once my senior year started, I began to see people around me apply for their dream colleges, cry when they got acceptance letters, and completely become so enthralled with their upcoming “adult” life. That’s when I began to panic a little bit. There were times when I felt like I was the only person doing something different. I felt like everyone around me had a plan for their life by the spring semester of senior year, while I felt a bit inadequate to take on a full-time music career. But, I believe that anything you love is worth fighting for. I’ve had to fight for this dream quite a bit, but I have loved every second of it. When you figure out what sets your heart on fire, everyday feels like an adventure! I believe that everyone has their own story, and nobody’s life should be or will be the same. If you have a dream, you need to chase after it with open arms- even if you need to fight hard for it.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Adeline Hill – what should we know?
My desire is to write stories into songs. I love the idea of providing people with music that means something; that makes you feel the things you didn’t know you needed to feel or even could feel. I have such a passion about writing songs about real life. In my first EP, I wanted to capture the most relatable feelings that everyone feels at some point in their life and turn them into lyrics. Your first love, your breakdowns, your top of the world moments, that feeling of wanting someone back. It’s all so important and it all should be felt. My hope with my music is that while listening, people would feel free to live and treasure life’s greatest moments, memories, and the feelings that come along with it!
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I have had so many incredible people come alongside me and cheer me on in a way I could have never imagined. All the support and the encouragement that I have felt from my sweet family and friends constantly puts a smile on my face. In fact, in August of 2017, I launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise money for my debut EP, “Moments to Memories.” Through platforms like Kickstarter, the people who donated to my campaign essentially became the record label and helped to fund the entirety of my project! In fact, with the help of countless friends and family, I was able to fund my EP in less than 24 hours! There is no better feeling than feeling affirmed in what you feel like you’re called to do with your life. Without the people who helped fund my EP, my music would have never been released in the first place. I am so thankful for a beautiful community who helped support and encourage my dream.
