Today we’d like to introduce you to Jaylin Rutledge.
Jaylin, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started Brown Sugar Bath Bakery by accident it was a hobby. An expensive hobby that I was pretty good at. I started making bakery inspired bath bombs. My parents told me that I need to find a way for my hobby to pay for its self. My little hobby turned into a business, and I started selling bath bombs, body scrub, and soap to family and friends.
After a few months, I had to bring my mom on as my business partner to help me manage my business. We decided to step our game up and cut out the soaps and add bath salts to our menu. We use all natural ingredients in our products since day one. Due to my skin sensitivity, I couldn’t use Bath & Body works so I decided to create my own natural bath products.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it hasn’t been a smooth road. I have JRA ( Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis), autoimmune disorders, and seizures, which make it difficult to make a product sometimes. My mom and I make everything by hand, and all items are made to order.
Please tell us about Brown Sugar Bath Bakery.
We specialize in Bakery inspired bath bombs and body scrubs. We are most known for our cupcake bath bombs and our Honey Almond sugar scrub. I am most proud of the fact that despite my health issues I am able to run my company just like anybody else and share my passion for creating beautiful bakery inspired bath bombs. Our uniquely styled bakery inspired bath bombs and our customer service.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite childhood memory is cooking and baking with my mom and my “Gigi” (great-grandmother) on holidays. My favorite was when they were making pies and cakes. I always got the bowl, beater, and spoon after the cake was in the oven.
