Today we’d like to introduce you to Laure Glorieux.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Laure. So, let’s start at the beginning, and we can move on from there.
Transforming my passion for photography into a business was a long road full of surprises, challenges, perseverance, and opportunities and I am still only at the beginning! But if I had to do it again, I would, without hesitation.
For a long time photography was just a hobby of mine, an activity I did on the side. Whatever I did, wherever I went, I always had a camera with me. Patience was a virtue for anyone discovering a new place with me as there were endless picture stops!
After working in France for 10+ years in big international companies my husband and I moved to Belgium (where two of my three kids, were born). Thanks to my maternity leave I took the time to seek what I really liked doing and what I was good at.
I have always loved colors, looking at things with an aesthetic perspective, finding the best angle and the best light. Working to develop my photography skills came naturally. But it was only when we moved to Atlanta that I decided to turn my passion into a career, becoming a full-time photographer and I don’t regret it one single second. I love my job!
Has it been a smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road as I have three kids (ages 8, 5 and almost 3) and it took much discipline to organize myself and find time to develop my business. I have never worked from home before, and so that was a first!
Another change was social media. I was way behind everyone from my generation when it came to social media. I only created my Facebook personal profile in 2014, and it was only because I wanted to be part of a photographer network. To be honest, Instagram is still a mystery for me!
In addition, it is never easy to be in front of a camera. You need to feel at ease and have a connection with the photographer, and that is why most of the time, people find a photographer through referrals and by word of mouth. So, coming from another country (France) wasn’t that easy at the beginning as I knew nobody in Atlanta and nobody knew me.
But if you love what you do, you will not give up easily. Every single day I work to improve myself.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into Laure Photography story. Tell us more about the business.
I specialize in all things related to family, from infants to newlyweds and everything in between. I also take pictures for private events and real estate. I just love taking pictures. After seeing some of the shots, I took of my kids and the feeling I had each time I looked at them, I realized I wanted to do that for other people too. Lifestyle pictures through which you can feel connection, emotion and authenticity are the ones I like best. I am always looking forward to meeting new people during sessions and creating happy and fun memories to cherish for a long time.
With a joyful, natural and airy style, my main motivation is to have people smile and recall good times whenever they walk past one of my pictures in their house.
For good reason, society often focuses more on the problems rather than the opportunities that exist, because the problems need to be solved. However, we’d probably also benefit from looking for and recognizing the opportunities that women are better positioned to capitalize on. Have you discovered such opportunities?
Give an advice… it would be to always open your eyes, be open to any new opportunity. We never know what life has in stock for us. And keep on educating yourself.
