Meet Trailblazer Jazzmyne Wages

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jazzmyne Wages.

Jazzmyne, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I have always viewed myself as more of an optimist, but it wasn’t until mid-February of 2014 that I attempted to take being actively positive, more seriously. At that time in my life, I was a few months away from graduation, so naturally, I was experiencing levels of fear, as well as excitement for the future. I discovered the #100HappyDaysChallenge by Dmitry Golubnichy on social media and decided to give it a try. Essentially, the challenge is for you to realize and/or discover things, big or small, that makes you happy each day. Considering our lives are filled with busy schedules and stress, it is important for you to live in the moment and hold onto each thing or moment that makes you happy each day. I asked myself 4.5 years ago, if I had time to be happy and “live in the moment” for 100 days straight, and I am happy to say that I did and have maintained that mindset ever since. After the challenge commenced, I felt refreshed, strong, and like a brand new Jazz. That challenge changed my life, and while I had felt the changes then, I can only be extremely grateful for those positive changes now, considering what followed. A few months later, I had a dear friend pass away. His death shook me to my core and forever changed who was. My mind and heart were scrambled, and I searched for answers, reasoning, and signs everywhere for an ounce of security.

The world as I had known it was forever changed and I needed to rebuild. I discovered that when I did things for others that I was at my happiest, so I continued to fill that void with those genuine actions. Being that soul that provided others with a smile on their face or confidence in their heart moved me. Within those acts of kindness and words of encouragement, I found that I needed to take my own advice at times and find confidence and love within myself. I decided to flip the mirror to reflect on myself so that I could work through my own personal demons. I felt that doing so would only heighten the impact of the expressions that I share with others. Following my gut instinct and drive to create something that was my own, I decided to put years of “faking it til you make it”, strength, sass, confidence, love of self and love of others, and optimism into a business. Jazzmyne Olivia was originally created in mid-2017 as a greeting card company and was then re-launched as a clothing brand in early 2018. It has been quite the process but has been enjoyable and a learning experience that I am thankful to have garnered for myself and others to enjoy. Sometimes, it does help to work on yourself from the outside in, so I want people to know that and feel that when they are wearing one of Jazzmyne Olivia’s self-love tees or other positively worded apparel. Self-love begins with you, so encourage you all to decide to thrive.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been a journey filled with mistakes, confusion, nights of worry, and stress. The biggest struggle has been self-doubt, though. Self-doubt is a thief of confidence, but I have chosen to use it as motivation for me to keep going and reach my goals. The advice that I have to share would be to always see the glass as half-full. Always try to see the positive in ANY and EVERY situation. That mindset will get you further, and you will find that it is a great way to track your progress rather than your failure.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Jazzmyne Olivia – what should we know?
I am the creator of a brand obsessed and focus on self-love and creating the best version of yourself. My clothing items can found online at www.jazzmyneolivia.com. My fave products are my self-love tees, but I also sell coffee mugs, towels, and totes with positive and sassy self-love affirmations on them. As a self-love brand owner, I am most proud of the impact I intend to make on the world and how empowered each individual person will be moving forward in their lives. I believe in creating positive ripples of energy, so I aim to see all of us evolve together over the course of time.

Do you feel like there was something about the experiences you had growing up that played an outsized role in setting you up for success later in life?
Absolutely! I grew up with a single mom who worked herself to the bone to provide everything for me. From a young age, it was instilled in me that if I wanted to get anywhere in life that I needed to work hard and not give up. Although I kept to myself when I was younger, I was taught to always speak my mind (within reason), be honest, stand up for myself, speak clearly, hold my head high, and be kind; those teachings have come more into play as I have grown into a young woman and have contributed to my success.
