Today we’d like to introduce you to Corinne Johnson.
Corinne, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I moved to Atlanta about eleven years ago to study Fashion Design/Marketing and to further my professional Makeup career. One day I met a man, had a baby and suddenly didn’t want to spend another long night away from my new family in Retail. At the height of my career (eight years in and in the middle of a promotion), I resigned and found a corporate job with a strict traditional schedule. My dreams were all coming true! I could work and come home to be present for my family like I had always wanted.
During my pregnancy with my second son, the “work-life balance” got complicated. My workload became heavier, and so did the stress involved in having a toddler and a newborn on the way. After a year, I had to make a choice. Would I continue living for my family or for my job?
Society says moms can have it all and still be happy. I needed to find out how and what that would look like. Mommy Robot was started to release some of the anxiety and internal upheaval that comes with major life changes. This blog is my journey to “Find Balance Between the Person and The Machine.” Mommy Robot aims to make life easier for women. The goal is to encourage and empower the whole person by providing solutions and sharing stories. We discuss crafts (kids and adults), organization tips, food (quick meals), makeup, faith, and everyday life. Mommy Robot is a labor of love to spread sisterly love.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has been quite jagged and bumpy!
The internet will have people believing it is easy to start a blog or business. Most people don’t realize how much work actually goes into networking, marketing, and research. Figuring out strategies for the major social media platforms is a monthly course in itself.
I started Mommy Robot then got sidetracked by numbers, comparisons, and an overload of “advice” from other content makers. The biggest challenge was time and second was living up to expectations I thought I had to achieve to be successful. I hit a block and became creatively paralyzed by the thought of it all. Thankfully I started to take my own advice. When I regrouped and reminded myself why I wanted to start this venture in the first place, everything started to fall into place.
Obstacles and challenges will always present themselves, how they are handled is where real success is born. I believe God put it in my heart to connect with people and help them. If He says I can there is absolutely no reason I can’t. Those thoughts help keep me motivated and focused on the goal.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Mommy Robot – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
Mommy Robot is a brand. She is the caregiver, counselor, nurturer, appointment setter, negotiator, chauffeur, prayer warrior, heart protector, chef, coordinator, art director, chaos controller, and much more. Her off button does not exist. The world needs her to make it happen and she does. Aliments do not stop her, and challenges do not defeat her. She is a machine that is undeterred by circumstances. She is programmed to understand that reaching the goal is the only option.
While it may seem that this powerful machine can’t possibly exist, she does. People have seen her, they know her, they may be her. Mommy Robot is human. She is a woman who still likes being pretty, needs quick meal planning solutions, tips on organizing her life to make it more efficient, easy kids craft Ideas, strategies to strengthen her faith walk, ideas for entertaining, and most importantly to know that she is still valued as a person.
Mommy Robot was created to document my journey for balance. I needed to know it was possible to support my loved one’s growth and my own happiness at the same time. I am most proud that through my adventures, I can meet other people embracing their own journey for balance. Being able to support and embrace others has been the most wonderful part in this chapter.
What sets the Mommy Robot brand apart from the others is our focus. Mommy Robot is about helping the woman. There may be parenting lessons in the stories, but the main focus is Mom the Woman. Helping her navigate through life as a whole person is the goal. SHE is the focus. She was a person before she was a wife and mother and she will still be a person during and after she has a family. We strive to help her see the value in that.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
The plans for the future include expanding the Mommy Robot brand. Partnering with companies to help moms learn how to love themselves better. Making “Me Time” work in mom’s life. There will be conferences, products, and opportunities to connect with other women to share sisterly love and support. The plans for the future are very promising for Mommy Robot.
Personally, I will continue to seek out new adventures to document. I’ll keep walking in my destiny by meeting new people every day to continue to spread kindness and love everywhere I go. People are valuable, and I consider it an honor to help them understand that.
