Meet Maggie Nunn of Second to Nunn Photo in Gwinnett County

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maggie Nunn.

Maggie, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started taking photos in 2009 when I was in the 9th grade after I got my very first camera: a Canon Rebel series. I knew from then on that I wanted to be a professional photographer. I started out, as most photographers do, taking pictures of my friends and family and once I started getting paid sessions, I started my company and thus Second to Nunn Photo was born.

In 2013, I was accepted into the imaging program at The Creative Circus, a portfolio school in Atlanta, GA. I went in with absolutely no idea what I wanted to do. I just knew I wanted to be a photographer. After my first year, I was leaning towards forensics photography because I wanted to be able to help people while my teachers were pushing me towards beauty product and portrait photography. I felt super lost trying to figure out who I was as an artist. I took a weddings class which was taught by Kelly Lewis; Kelly is Nice Photography. She helped me really come out into the light as a photographer by teaching me I could be myself in every sense of the word.

Shortly after the start of her guidance, I was hired to photograph my first wedding: I instantly fell in love with wedding photography. It was as if for the first time I really found my calling and ever since then I have never looked back. Weddings are my passion; every single one is unique and beautiful. I still get to help people but in a different way. I get to capture the love between two souls on one of the most significant days of their lives that they get to hold onto forever. I have been a natural light wedding and portrait photographer for four years now. I photograph about 30 weddings a year and I am completely in love with my job.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
For a long time, I struggled with my look: with my photos and with myself. I felt like I had to fit into a mold as a wedding photographer. I tried to force myself into this bubbly and conservative box and held back a large part of my personality. I would go as far as changing my entire style of editing so that it fit into a more “popular” look. I think a lot of photographers struggle with that at one point or another and they just don’t talk about it!

More recently I have embraced my whole self and put it into my work. I want to be my real self with every single one of my couples. It has attracted clients who appreciate my work and who I am as a person and let me tell you; there is not a better feeling in the world as a business woman!

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Second to Nunn Photo – what should we know?
I am a natural light wedding and portrait photographer: I photograph weddings, couples, seniors, families, and boudoir sessions. My work is bright and romantic.

When my couples get their photos back, they remember every moment and emotion from that day. The laughter, the tears, and the ooo’s and ahh’s. I want every single one of those emotions to flow through them when they go through their galleries. That is what I strive for every one of my couples.

For my company, I am proud of every review and thank you card I receive. I want to make every couple I have wedding photo dreams come true and their excitement from going through their photos is enough for me!
