Today we’d like to introduce you to Jacqueline Evadne.
Hi Jacqueline, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve been a practicing artist in Atlanta for several years now, making my studio homes at Chastain Arts Center, MudFire, Atlanta Clay Works, and Spruill Center for the Arts across the past decade. It was only in 2023 that I started branching into selling my work, showcasing at gallery exhibitions, and donating pieces to charity. Since 2023, I have had the pleasure and the privilege to be part of more than 20 shows, ranging from art markets to solo exhibitions. I feel so lucky to live in such a vibrant city, full of opportunities and with such a supportive community of creative peers.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
As with any endeavor where you put yourself out there, applying to galleries has offered its fair share of rejections. But, after the first time I was rejected, I reached out to the gallery coordinator to see if there was anything I could do differently the next time, and that moment of vulnerability opened the door to opportunities I never could have imagined for myself. Even still, I continue to face rejection, but I never let it deter me from dreaming even bigger and persevering in putting my art out into the world.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I work primarily with acrylic paint and clay, but I’ve dabbled in pastels, oil, charcoal, metal, concrete, and more. When painting, I take a surreal approach to still life and have carved a niche for vibrant fruit paintings. When working with clay, I explore the intersection of function and beauty—using not only the wheel to create precise and useful pieces, but also employing handbuilding techniques to imbue each with a unique flair. Regardless of the medium, my art conveys a sense of whimsy and a strong connection to the natural world.
What matters most to you?
My community matters more than anything—and in that, I’m including my incredibly supportive fiancé, Logan Porter, but I’m also thinking of all my fellow artists who have encouraged me along the way, the people I sculpt alongside every week at the studio, the countless friends and family members who come to every show, and those who motivate me from afar. I love that I get to share my art and ideas with so many thoughtful, caring, wonderful people, and they share theirs with me; it has made my life beyond beautiful.
