Check Out Jasmine Silas’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Silas.

Hi Jasmine, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I AM TurnStyle started off as a hobby. It was originally supposed to be a plus-size fashion magazine, “Yesterday’s fashion is today’s style for the above-average woman.” Showcasing how things (clothes, shoes, hair styles, etc.) change with the time and I was going to put my creative twist on it. Well, things don’t always happen, how you plan, so I had to take a detour and my magazine had to take a back seat.

My husband was severely impacted by COVID-19, he was hospitalized for 31 days, being the sole provider during this time, I knew I had to make money in order for us to survive. This is when my hobby became a business. I looked at where I was spending money at the most and found that I was giving my money to the big candle retailers. I did my research and found that the candle business was worth $3.4 billion and thought, “I know I can do this and why can’t I get some of this money, LOL” I researched hours, days, and weeks of how to make candles, tips n tricks, and what people like.

I tried it out, I did a test phase, where I made some candles and gave them out to some of my test participants. They gave me their feedback, I made changes, and here we are! I am always improving my products and studying the market to see how I should move.

Now I have 3 businesses. I AM TurnStyle, which I started with 3 different candles. Now I have over 20 different scents, wax melts, candle accessories, and car air fresheners. I AM TurnStyle Events, which I host an array of creative classes and events. I also, just launched my new baby I AM TurnStyle Accommodations.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, it has not always been smooth, but you just keep going, you continue to pray, and know that God got you!

I have noticed that people like what they like. They are use to the big retailers, and the challenge that I once face was getting them to try my products. I started giving them samples. This is when, I knew that giving out free samples of my products, would help my business in the long run. Yes, it did cost me money, but when I gave out my freebies, I converted the big retailer customers into my small business customer based and my business is growing.

Word of mouth is the best advertisement!
