Check Out Joanne Freeman-Blake’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joanne Freeman-Blake.

Hi Joanne, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My story as a writer began as a teen doodling as a hobby, not knowing it was a gift. Fast forward to my much later adult years, my talent/gift was discovered when I wrote an obituary poem. I received rave reviews. That led to a poetry journey that received great attention, as well as some publications. On to my greatest accomplishment, a published children’s author. My grandson, at the age of four, came home from pre-k class and mentioned Bullying. This led to a children’s book featuring him entitled, Emoree The Bully Proof Kid.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Being an author has been a challenge. I work a full-time job, so my time is limited. Myself and my grandson have done many news interviews, appearances, and storytelling moments. There is also a matter of keeping my book relevant, so I must promote myself. This involves promotional supplies, social media, & contest giveaways. My biggest struggle today is finding time to write the next book.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a creative, gifted writer. I would love to say I’m talented, but it’s so much more than that. It’s a God-given gift. Not only am I now a published children’s author, published poetess, but I’ve been a professional caregiver for many years. I’ve even won the 2021 caregiver of the year award. So I carry many titles. I’m so grateful for the support I’ve received with my children’s book. I never imagined it would take the level it has. I’m most proud of what my book has done for my grandson. He tells people he’s famous, he’s the Bully Proof Kid. I’m set apart from others because I have gifts that are allowing me to be a gift to someone else. I wasn’t taught to write but gifted with words.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
I would like to say that it’s never too late to tap in and realize your gift. What I took as doodling and helping my sick mom as a teen led to two great professions. It’s been said to not let what you’ve been through stop you from where you’re going to. I’m a living witness. I’m right where God wants me, and I love it.
