Check Out Rodney Iler’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rodney Iler

Hi Rodney, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I am Rodney Iler, a 21-year-old sophomore at Georgia State University majoring in Early Childhood Education. I am most known for my prolific songwriting, excellence in leading worship, and professional skills in graphic design. Over the last 5 years, I’ve taken a huge leap of faith to pursue my career as a gospel artist and worship leader and while it’s been a difficult journey, it’s also been well worth it.

My career in gospel music took a significant step forward in August 2021 with the release of my debut project, “Secrets.” This project marked my entry into the gospel music scene and earned me a nomination for Youth Project of the Year at the 2022 Gospel Stellar Awards.

In January 2024, I recorded his sophomore project live in Atlanta, GA, and in July 2024, I released the project’s title track, “Yes Forever,” a powerful anthem with a message of committing one’s heart to God for real and forever.

While pursuing his music career, as I mentioned, I am a Georgia State University sophomore majoring in Early Childhood Education. My college journey began at Clark Atlanta University, where I quickly realized that his purpose extended beyond academics as my audition for the Clark Atlanta Philharmonic Society Choir became a profound encounter with God, going viral on social media and inspiring over 113,000 people worldwide. This experience catalyzed the launch of Rodney Iler & G.E., a group of singers and worshippers from various colleges dedicated to using their creative gifts to glorify Jesus.

Outside of ministry and business endeavors, I enjoy cooking, watching movies, and spending quality time with my loved ones!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
This has not been an easy or smooth road, but it has been one well worth the journey!

My journies into ministry and entrepreneurship were both journies filled with uncertainty, questions, and the feeling of being alone. At the time of starting my graphic design business, I was very shy and wasn’t socially involved in my community to pull on my peers for help. Similarly, when I started leading worship, I was able to learn and be cultivated through my worship pastor at the time, Alexis Spight but at the start of my career in artistry, I didn’t know anyone or anything about the music industry which made it very difficult to execute things in the level of excellence, professionalism, and creativity that I desired to do things in.

Not having the knowledge and understanding I needed, I made a lot of mistakes with the production of the work I released, with the relationships I built along the way, and even in the way that communicated with those who worked close to me. At one point in my journey, I was embarrassed by the way these things had played out at the beginning of my journey but 5 years later, today I am grateful for every struggle, mistake, and wrong decision because it has helped me be a better version of myself as a human, as an artist, and as a businessman.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
One thing that sets me apart from others is my ability to bring a level of order, excellence, and creativity to everything I put my hands on. I stand apart through my unwavering faith, excellence in my craft, and commitment to ministry. For me, remaining a student at heart and always seeking to grow while staying grounded in humility is vital. With future projects and ministry endeavors on the horizon, I am poised to continue impacting lives and drawing people closer to Jesus through his music and creative vision.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Finding a mentor and building a strong network starts with being intentional and authentic. Look for mentors whose values and work align with your purpose, and don’t be afraid to reach out with humility and a willingness to serve. Attend industry events, engage on social media, and build relationships through collaboration rather than competition. Networking isn’t just about making connections—it’s about maintaining them by being supportive and consistent. Most importantly, pray for guidance and let God lead you to the right people who will help you grow.

I don’t have a mentor right now but I am learning more day by day through my decision to join my church, Victory City Church Atlanta. In November 2024, I made this decision and since then everything I’ve needed to know, learn, and correct has been evolving more every day. Scripture tells us in Proverbs 11:14 “Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counselors there is safety” and I have found safety in submission to my leader and my church. So, while I am an advocate for therapy, I’d also suggest that you ask God to lead you to the right person and church that aligns with you, your purpose, and your values.
