Check Out Sabrina Saleha’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sabrina Saleha.

Hi Sabrina, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am an actress and screenwriter. I am currently a graduate student earning my Master of Fine Arts in Screening at the Institute of American Indian Arts (IAIA) and Native American Media TV Writer’s Lab fellow with SkinsFest.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Acting and Screenwriting is a second-act career for me.

After graduating from North Carolina State University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, I worked in the tech industry in Silicon Valley for several years. It was there I founded the Native American Employee Resource Organization and secured partnerships with Native American organizations on college campuses to create a pipeline for Indigenous talent.

Eventually, I traded in my corporate life to full-time Vanlife and traveled to all the National Parks in the US and Canada. During this time, I transitioned my career into what it is today. An actress and screenwriter based in Atlanta and a graduate student earning my MFA in Screenwriting.

My career path is far from linear, but it’s shaped me as an artist.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am Diné (Navajo) and Bangladeshi-American woman who grew up in the south. As a Diné-South Asian artist, I do not see my life experience shared and I feel it is my unique calling to share my perspective from the lens of culturally growing up in two beautiful, distinct cultures. I am both Indigenous to this land and the daughter of an immigrant, and both experiences encompass a spectrum of upbringings and beliefs. My culture informs my work as an artist.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
The saying goes, “luck is when preparation meets opportunity.” As a creative, I focus on what I can control and what brings me joy. I think life has a way of balance. I think I’ve had a healthy dose of the good and the bad, for better or for worse.
