Check Out Samantha Steers’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Samantha Steers.

Hi Samantha, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
The writing and poetry community knows me as PChez, founder of PChez Cree8s, LLC. I’ve been writing for as long as I can remember life being a starter kit to living. Writing has always been my savior (so to speak). There were times that I questioned life and it’s worth. I remember writing keeping me from getting into trouble as a teenager. “To avoid being disciplined by a setting that didn’t see things as I did, I trained myself to believe some words were meant to be written and not spoken aloud”.

“Writing pieces to keep my mind at peace” was what i wrote on my Composition books in school. It kept me from losing my sanity from then and beyond. I’ve struggled with depression and anxiety. Poetry had become my therapeutic necessity. After meeting so many people like myself, I was encouraged to start Poetry is My Therapy; with the hopes that people who have struggled with mental health issues never give up. I am a witness that there will be struggles. And without struggles, there will never be anything to write about. I’ve gratefully had the opportunity to share my poetry at various open mics and in plays.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Very rarely do I see days that are obstacle free. Juggling the life of a parent, a wife, an employee, an entrepreneur… the titles continue to almost as long as the hours in a month of Sundays. Some days I lose. Some days I win. Everyday I fight to keep sane. Life is an obstacle and the challenge is to keep striving and to keep living the best way you can everyday. Someone very special to me once said, “It’s one thing to be alive and another to live”. I encourage everyone to keep living. And for those in doubt, feel free to visit my social media pages to view what like minds have already; my “Poetry is My Therapy”. I believe writing has helped make my journey towards staying sane fairly smooth. For me, writing is very therapeutic!

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a product of people who were compassionate about speaking up for others. Whether it was for their community or people they were associated with, their “uncanny” devotion to others (with no expectations of gifts to follow) was somehow questioned by society. Who does things for people “just because”? Caring people do. If you didn’t know me you’d think I was always up to something. If you got to know me, you’d know that I am indeed always up to something. I want to see everyone succeed. That’s the difference between myself and others (others, not everyone). Sadly, I was told once or maybe even twice that I care too much. So many people forget that the rainbow is more than just a bridge of colors. More than our skin should be reflected upon as a color. Our life and the emotions shown from it are also very colorful. I am a poet, a creative writer, an entrepreneur; and an artist in my own rights. I am the founder and owner of PChez Cree8s, LLC; and I’m always looking for an open mic to share at and network with others. What sets me a part from others? A bridge based off of life’s emotions and the colorful expressions crossed verbally everyday.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
Credit? My life has been spared so many times. Without God where would I be? With every spared day given, I struggled at understanding why I was still alive. At one point, I wasn’t the easiest to talk to. Neither my husband, our family nor friends gave up on me. So I also ask, “Where would I be without my family and close friends? I give credit to them, because they each (in their own way allowed me to be creatively free). I’m often reminded of the ink in my DNA which has kept me the closest I’ve ever been to feeling sane and free. What started as a pencil being used to discipline me for misbehaving; continues as a two edged sword on some days and as a pen on the remaining days; forever challenging every essence of my life. I am humbled by those who have taken time to read my poetry, listen to me speak, and open up to me about the similarities shared in their lives. “Poetry is my Therapy” and it can be yours too! Please stay tuned to hear more from PChez.
