Check Out Talethia Benton’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Talethia Benton.

Hi Talethia, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I go by the name Styledbyladyt and I am the owner of Winky Lashes & Locs. I am an Atlanta Georgia native and reside in Decatur, Georgia with my husband, three children and my dog Rocky. I currently run my business in the Salon Lofts in Decatur, GA. The services that I offer are lash and loc services, in which I have been in business for five years now.

Funny because as a young girl I wasn’t even thinking about becoming a beauty industry profession but over the years, I grew a strong love for it. I was raised in a single parent home with my mother, sister, and two brothers. There were times when my mom and sister would asked me to assist them with doing their hair and something about it was so soothing to me. From there, I would do my friend’s hair and my hair and before I knew it, I was earning money doing hair for the public so I went to school and earned my Master Cosmetologist License. I grew a love for lashes not only because I love the way lash extensions enhance my beauty but also because of the convenience of not having to apply mascara and also the creative looks and designs you can create on people and the confidence and satisfaction that I see when each one of my clients get off on the lash bed.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The most challenging part of my journey was before I decided to take a leap out on faith and that was making a very challenging decision of quitting my job to go full-time with doing hair. At first, I didn’t think it was possible but when I started getting a lot of bookings, I saw no need to keep working a regular 9-5 and decided why not just say my prayers and take a stab at it. When I decided to quit my job, I had just opened my salon loft and the pandemic hit and everything got shut down, which became even more of a challenge because funds were running low. Although this was happening, I couldn’t get discouraged and decided to work from home to make sure that I could keep my dream alive. Before you know it, when the lockdown was over and people were allowed to come in and receive services. People were so in need of my services that my books stayed filled within 2-3 weeks time span.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in locs and lashes. I offer starter locs services which are for clients ready to enter a new journey with their hair and life changes seeking to be made. It’s one thing to create a style with locs but to receive maintenance after you start your journey and knowing how to continue nourishment to your hair along with love, care, and great energy is another.

I not only just do lashes but I believe in healthy lashes but be knowledgeable and designing a look but also to know the importance of the maintenance of having natural healthy lashes while wearing lash extensions.
