Today we’d like to introduce you to Vince James
Hi Vince, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve always had a passion for bringing visions to life, which started back in middle school when I was creating artwork and promotional graphics for artists I supported. Using free design tools like Picnik and BeFunky (iykyk), I started to experiment and develop a love for graphic design. As I got older and learned more about color, fonts, and placement, I began advertising myself as a graphic designer and with all thanks to God, he’s allowed me to be able to brand myself and sell services based on my skills.
Since then, I’ve had the privilege of working with a steady stream of clients from all over the world, including public figures, which has been incredibly rewarding. It’s humbling to know that they trust me to bring their ideas to life. Today, I run my own graphic design and visual production company, Broken Pyrvmids, and I’m grateful for the growth I’ve experienced, both as a designer and as an individual. It’s been an exciting journey, and I’m constantly learning and evolving along the way.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The struggles have always felt like learning opportunities — whether it’s overcoming self-doubt or navigating tough projects. I believe that dwelling on negative struggles don’t help me grow or move forward and being honest, I only choose to focus on the opportunities for learning and improvement that comes with each obstacle. This mindset has allowed me to stay motived and focused on the positive steps I can take to enhance my skills and creativity. That’s what makes the journey so rewarding.
One challenge I faced early on was learning how to balance the creative side of design with the business aspects. It took time to figure out pricing, managing client expectations, and setting boundaries, especially as a freelancer.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in graphic design, photography, and videography, with a focus on helping clients bring their visions to life through captivating visuals. Whether it’s creating dope mixtape covers, album artwork, logos, flyers, business cards, or any other graphic needs, my work is all about blending creativity with purpose.
I’m known for my attention to detail and the bold, eye-catching designs I create. Several people always put the goat emoji when they tag me in their posts and it’s definitely an incredible compliment. But as a perfectionist, I often doubt whether I truly deserve that title, because I’m always pushing myself to do better and elevate my craft. What sets me apart is my ability to make every project unique to the client’s needs and vision. I take pride in being highly collaborative, making sure each design resonates with the brand or message it’s meant to convey.
What I’m most proud of is my returning clients, as well as the opportunity to work with public figures. The fact that people continue to trust me with their projects and that my designs make a real impact is honestly humbling and something that motivates me to keep improving.
The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
One important lesson I learned during the COVID-19 crisis is just how quickly technology is advancing. With so many online design tools available now, people can literally create their own designs, and there’s a lot more competition with these tools. But even with that, I’ve realized that people still prefer to hire professionals. Whether it’s because they don’t have the time, want a polished design, or simply prefer to have someone else bring their vision to life, graphic designers are still in demand.
It made me realize that while technology is always evolving, there’s still a human element to design that people appreciate. I even started saying ‘GET VINCE TO DO IT’ because it reflects how I’ve positioned myself in the industry as someone who clients trust to deliver high-quality, personalized work. It’s been a reminder that, despite all the tools out there, creativity and expertise are always needed to make something truly stand out.
