Today we’d like to introduce you to Emanuel Beasley.
Hi Emanuel, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
First, I would like to shoutout Caleb Campana for recommending me for this interview. I could’ve become a product of my environment, but I didn’t. I was born and spent most of my childhood in a crime-ridden neighborhood in Memphis, TN. As a young boy, I remember my uncle always coming by and picking me up to go shoe and clothes shopping. It also helped that he knew management at the Nike Factory. He would often take me to the factory, which exposed me to a different side of fashion. It was then I fell in love with it all. Color-coordinating, styling myself and of course, making sure my fit had the drip.
Furthermore, my grandma had her own retail store. She made sure my brother and myself had dope gear to wear to school. Fast forward to junior high school – that’s around the time I moved to Atlanta. Moving to the metro area afforded me a lot of opportunities to experience more culture, different people and connections. Atlanta exposed me to the possibility and the dream of being an entrepreneur. So I started doing my homework, going to events, reading books, putting myself out there in front of the right people through music, fashion and art. It wasn’t an overnight start – I started writing my goals down and making them a reality and thus Street League Apparel was born. It made sense to align my passion for music and fashion together, which is what got me where I am today. It’s humble beginnings. I don’t have a lot, but I am staying the course, setting more goals and taking calculated risks. More importantly, I am staying consistent and surrounding myself with a good support group that keeps me motivated and reaching my highest potential.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, I have suffered my share fair of adversity, which all of us do to some degree. I am a firm believer there’s always going to be challenged in life. It’s always how you respond to the obstacles. I tend to face my challenges head-on and let my faith be bigger than my fears. Personally, it was difficult leaving Memphis, where most of my father’s family lives. My paternal grandmother was my rock and a big supporter. Not being able to talk or see her everyday was hard. I also had to make a lot of adjustments once moving to Atlanta, specifically moving from a black neighborhood to a suburban one. Life at home wasn’t easy either. My mother is a single mom, and being the oldest, I took on a lot of responsibilities to ensure my brother and sister had the things they needed. But life is a great teacher. The most difficult roads often lead to a great destination, so I remind myself daily to Be Great, Do Great, Elevate!
We’ve been impressed with Street League Apparel, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I founded Street League Apparel in 2019 in the basement of my grandparents’ home in metro Atlanta. Street League Apparel is a clothing line that encourages people to be brave enough to live the life of their dreams according to their vision, It’s a brand that targets the car enthusiasts community, but more importantly, it’s an overall brand about unity and family. It’s a brand about your story. Anyone who has a vision to elevate or just love street-wear fashion is who I want representing me on the streets. These larger brands may have a bigger backing, but the experience is what attracts my clientele and ultimately keeps them. I walk every customer I have through a personal journey, making myself available for ideas and more. When you come to Street League Apparel, you get more than just clothes. You find a new home for family clothing.
Additionally, I have started branching out and giving organizations the opportunity to include a custom marketing package for their clothing. This package includes a custom story, social media posts and an animated logo/brand intro. For me, I’m just proud I can provide a service for my family, organization and others and that my dream is now becoming more than a reality. It’s becoming a way of life.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I like to read self-development books.
