Today we’d like to introduce you to Jocelyn Mccoy-Brown.
Hi Jocelyn, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I born and raised in Atlanta, GA; received my education from Stone Mountain High School, undergraduate (Human Services/Psychology) and postgraduate degree from Shorter University. After many years of being a safe haven for her friends, family and children in the neighborhood; she pursued her career as a mental health practitioner. With practical and an educational background, I chose to become a Life Coach with holistic practices. In January of 2017, I became the CEO/ Life Coach of McCoy-Brown Interventions LLC.
I’ve utilized my gifts teaching women, men and teenagers how to manifest and reach goals they’ve never imagined. I’ve hosted events such as “A Diamond in the Rough”; it caters to women to teach self-love and self-care, give back to the homeless and has worked as a life coach with group homes working with teenagers in the department of family children’s service care. I’ve also been a host/speaker for other women socials.
My goal is to impact individuals to think outside of their ‘right now’ circumstance to encourage them to become better in loving themselves mentally, emotionally and physically. I’ve always had aspirations to be an author who writes different genres of books. When I hired my book coach Shannon Anderson; she suggested I get my audience to learn me first. So, I wrote a book to be an inspiration to let others know that; no matter how hard it gets, never give up and win.
“Love is what love does” is targeted to anyone who’s battled with the word love. People use the word love so freely. So many people say I love you but don’t show up or put actions behind their verbal approach. This book shares how I experienced life in many different ways that led to self-discovery and finding out what love really meant. Through the journey, I’ve taken I would like to assist others along their journey to heal broken relationships with people and themselves. This book addresses how depression slipped in and tried to attack me for years. I became a walking zombie because of my lack of knowledge of knowing what depression was and the different types. Then once I became aware, the anxiety of going back would take a toll over my mental health. Life can be hard at times. Life can be great at times. Life can be overwhelming at times. Life can make you doubt yourself and the people around you at times.
It’s up to you to change your mindset!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road for my being an entrepreneur/ Life Coach. I’ve had to work endless low-paying jobs just to maintain my bills. I’ve applied to over a 1000’s of jobs since 2016; it put me in a depressed state because I felt I wasn’t enough. I had a Master’s degree and couldn’t find a job that could pay me over $35,000 a year to take care of my family. I’ve had enough so I started my business. In doing so, I would have good days then bad days with no money coming in. I’ve had to make ends meet the best way possible to provide financially. Even on my bad days when I’ve had nothing to give; I would still pour into my clients, friends and family members. Although I never got the dream high-paying corporate job, choosing to live in my purpose God has always protected me in all measures. I’m so grateful with the strength and tenacity he blessed me with to get through the struggles. Having a strong connection with my ancestors has pushed me in ways I couldn’t imagine. Staying grounded in faith and believing who I am has helped me along this journey.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The most important lesson I’ve learned is loving me. I can love everyone around me but I can’t have expectations for others to love me and I’m not willing to do the same for myself. Once you love “YOU” unconditionally then it will be easier for you to love others the same.
