Today we’d like to introduce you to LaShaun Dodds.
Hi LaShaun, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My career in dance begin in a dance program provided at my elementary school on the South Side of Chicago. From there I continued training in dance and choreography throughout my academic years while studying in business and working in the non profit sector. During my adult years, my interests in the performing arts and choreography shifted into ministry and has manifested into non profit work via a faith based performing arts center primarily for youth.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Anything in life worth having requires work and constant learning. Building a non profit that serves marginalized communities is quite often a challenge on many levels. But I have learned that faith, consistency, constant learning, team building, and partnerships are a few of the elements that have contributed to success. It is an empowering and humbling ride.
