Community Highlights: Meet Timothy Fields of BESN X Community

Today we’d like to introduce you to Timothy Fields.

Hi Timothy, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Well, I started my journey back in 2007 in becoming a video game journalist and reviewer for my website thug-geek.com which is known d1msum.com And that was due to not being able to find a job in the game industry so I created my own. Then years of being in the industry I notice that it has very few POC within in so I launched BESN.TV and now BESN X Community to increase the chance of more BIPOC getting a job within the gaming and esports industry.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Oh god no! Especially since not all skin folk is kinfolk. I tried to work with many different people of color organization and companies on for ideas to get stolen or they just don’t get it. I find a lot of flattering but push on because there is the next generation of people that needs this in-order for them to succeed so I press on. But now it seems that black is no longer trending and a lot of big companies are now backtracking on their sponsorships and donations because its no longer in the spotlight. So you have to force their hand in order to bring the change that is needed.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
With BESN.TV we’ve moved a lot of our items over to our Non- Profit BESN X Community in order to increase more BIPOC community into esports and game development through stem. We also are gearing up for our Black innovation and gaming expo in march in Atlanta. And were looking to build out a very large stem center in the Midwest as well. We have always been focus on national branding then with a local and regional focus. Especially with BESN.TV we have started building our new platform have added NFT and crypto support for tournaments as well. This is what sets us apart from other because we are not about the clout of doing business, we want actual real growth within the BIPOC Community. This is the reason we have partners like Amazon who like our growth strategy. So if you company that’s interested in being a part of this feel free to reach out and support our efforts because 2022 is going to be huge!

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
Don’t be bothered by Nos and don’t wait months to get a NO. If a company doesn’t want to support your efforts ask for it in the beginning and don’t be dragged on in months of meetings because time is our greatest commodity and don’t waste it on anyone that isn’t going to push the envelope in your companies success!
