Today we’d like to introduce you to Katie Summerrow of Katie Max Art.
Hi Katie, thanks for joining us today. Could you tell us more about how you became an artist?
As a child, I drew everything. I would sketch fashion models while I was sitting in church next to my parents and flowers on my way to school in the mornings. It wasn’t until I took studio art courses at The University of Georgia that I really fell in love with the personal interpretation side of art. Last March, I lost my job due to Covid, I had created and sold art for a few years on the side, so I decided to use my open schedule to launch into my dream of creating full-time! I was immediately overwhelmed by the support from family and friends, and I have been continuing since! My new work is expressive abstract inspired by music and lyrics.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am super influenced by music and color harmonies in nature and design! Musicians influencing me right now are Coldplay, Billy Joel, and Neil Young. While creating my upcoming collection, I was really inspired by the color tones of the Mediterranean. I am certified in color psychology, and those lessons played a major role in creating a new palette. There’s something so fresh and magical about Santorini and the Mediterranean, and I wanted to embody that feeling in this collection work.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success, to me, is creating work that I’m proud of and consistently challenging myself and my creative process.
