Conversations with Jaye Rochell

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jaye Rochell.

Jaye Rochell

Hi Jaye, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Absolutely! My story really kicks off with my love for Atlanta and its sports culture. About a year ago, I noticed something that bugged me—Atlanta sports were seriously underrepresented. You hardly ever hear about our teams in the media, and when you do, it’s just surface-level stuff. I thought, ‘That’s not right!’ Atlanta is more than just a city; it’s a vibe, a culture, and our teams really embody that energy.

So, I started ATL Sports Zone, a YouTube channel dedicated to all things Atlanta. My goal was simple: to give our teams the spotlight they deserve and show how they’re a part of what makes Atlanta so special. Whether it’s the Falcons, Hawks, Braves, or Atlanta United, they’re more than just teams—they represent the hustle, diversity, and resilience of this city.

I also wanted to blend sports with the unique culture of Atlanta—the music, the food, the people—because that’s what makes our teams stand out. ATL Sports Zone became my way of telling Atlanta’s story, connecting with fans who feel the same way, and building a space where we could celebrate our city together. It’s been an incredible ride, and I’m proud to keep shining a light on the magic of Atlanta.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Definitely not smooth sailing—more like a rollercoaster with some bumps along the way! I’ve always wanted to be someone who represents Atlanta, and to do that, I’ve had to put myself out there and share my opinions. And, let’s be real, when you’re building something on YouTube and showing your love for Atlanta sports, criticism and haters are going to pop up. It’s just part of the game.

I’ve had my share of people who don’t agree with my takes or who just aren’t fans of what I’m doing. But honestly, I’ve learned to push through that noise. To me, it’s all about staying focused on the bigger picture—telling the story of what makes Atlanta sports so special and showing how we can take our teams to the next level.

The challenges have only fueled my passion to keep going, and I wouldn’t trade the journey for anything. It’s worth it to represent Atlanta and give our sports the spotlight they deserve.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a content creator for Atlanta sports, and honestly, I love what I do! My goal is to create videos that highlight everything about Atlanta sports—news, opinions, film breakdowns, you name it. I want fans to not only understand their teams better but also connect with the culture behind them. Atlanta sports are more than just stats and scores; they’re about the heart of this city, and I try to bring that to life in my content.

If I had to pick a specialty, I’d say it’s my football takes. Having played college football at the University of Tennessee, I bring some hands-on experience with schemes and the game itself. That background helps me break things down in a way that makes sense to fans, whether they’re die-hard football junkies or just getting into the game. I also pride myself on being honest and non-biased in my feedback. A lot of people call me an optimist—and maybe I am—but I promise, our Atlanta teams aren’t as bad as some people think!

What I’m most proud of, though, is the community I’ve built. Hearing from people who say, ‘Thank you for being a voice for Atlanta sports,’ or who offer encouragement, honestly keeps me going. It’s a reminder that what I’m doing matters and inspires me to keep striving to be better.

What sets me apart is my drive and the range of sports I cover. A lot of creators focus on just one team, but I want to give love to all of Atlanta sports. From the Dream and the Braves to Atlanta United, the Falcons, Hawks, and even Georgia Tech—I’m here for everyone. My goal is to make sure no team or fan feels left out and to create a space where we can celebrate them all.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
My biggest piece of advice for anyone starting out is simple: just get started. Seriously, don’t overthink it. The best way to learn and grow is to jump in and start creating. Experience is the ultimate teacher—you’ll figure things out as you go, and each step will make you better.

Also, don’t be afraid to show who you are and share your opinions. It can be intimidating at first because, let’s face it, there will always be people who disagree with you. That’s just part of the game. But here’s the thing: there are way more people out there who will connect with what you’re saying and appreciate your perspective. Those are the people you’re doing it for.

So, don’t hold back, and don’t wait for the perfect moment—it doesn’t exist. Just start, be consistent, and trust yourself. You’ve got something unique to offer, and the world deserves to see it!
