Daily Inspiration: Meet Asia McFarland

Today we’d like to introduce you to Asia McFarland.

Asia, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was born and raised in Baltimore, and I moved out to Atlanta 3 years ago after I graduated from Morgan State University with a degree in hospitality management. I thought I had my whole life planned out to one day opening my own restaurant but when covid happened, my entire life took a 180 turn. I enjoyed interacting with guests but the physical demand of working in hotels did not allow me to focus on my personal growth. I always knew I wanted to find a career that I loved helping people create generational wealth, and I knew I would not be able to find fulfillment working in a hotel 24/7. I actually came to being a Mortgage Loan Originator by accident. My older brother who is a real estate agent in Baltimore signed me up for the course and it turned out to be the very thing I was searching for. Although I am only in my first year my experiences in my new path have brought me more insight towards my purpose.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
When the shutdown from covid occurred, I was laid off from my job. When this happened, I felt myself going in a downward spiral. This road has been far from easy, but every obstacle has made me who I am today. Being isolated allowed me to be able to rediscover myself.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My profession goes by many names in real estate but the one I go by is a Mortgage Loan Originator. An MLO is a licensed individual who assists potential borrowers through the process of obtaining a loan. My overall task is to evaluate a client’s financial profile to create a loan that aligns with their goals and eligibility. I love what I do because it gives me a sense of purpose. Being able to help a family break generational curses or help someone create generational wealth is the fulfillment I have been searching for. Homeownership and financial literacy are scarce in my community and every day I am striving to eliminate those obstacles. Although not everyone can qualify for a home at the moment, I don’t want them to stop their process. Every borrower’s situation is different so to combat what delayed their process, I set up monthly goals for them to fix what hindered their journey. These goals allow my clients to take their own steps to achieve financial freedom.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
The most important characteristic towards my success is to move purposefully. Striving through my day with a purpose has allowed me to vision the goals I have set forth to achieve.
