Daily Inspiration: Meet Cash Carter

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cash Carter.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Originally from Chicago, Illinois, I grew up just outside of Detroit, Michigan. I originally developed my gift in hair and makeup while attending Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia. At the same time I also became involved in the Midwest ballroom scene around 1992 and eventually retired as a Chicago Escada Icon in 2008. Eventually after owning and operating several businesses in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and Miami, Florida between 2102-2016, I eventually returned to Atlanta, Georgia in 2025. Currently, I’m working to expand my businesses by developing and opening upscale grooming lounges for men.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Although I had all of the same opportunities in life as anyone else, along the way I have made some wrong turns in life. I’ve been to prison TWICE before turning 30. In addition, I grew up in the 1990s when HIV care and LGBT services were very limiting.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’ve always been a trendsetter and attracted to hair weaving, wigs and installs. I was involved in being one of the first to execute and brand the “man weave”. Later in my career I was exposed to the up and coming generation of black LGBT content creators who did makeup tutorials on YouTube. That cultivated in me expanding my skill set to include makeup application. What sets me apart from others is the fact that I’m of a dying breed of stylists who still know how to cut, color and style hair of people from all nationalities.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Believe in yourself because most of the time we tend to be our own worse enemy.
