Today we’d like to introduce you to Dalton Friar.
Hi Dalton, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
In a time when Home Alone dominated the box office and Cheers dominated the small screen, I was born. I won’t bore you with all of that but I am a Coach at CrossFit 404 in Buckhead. How’d I get here? Well, that is a novel in itself but I really happened here by chance. I had been doing CrossFit for well over a decade and I was yearning for the opportunity to make it my career. That chance was responding to an Instagram ad and the rest is history. I have spent my entire life searching for a way to really affect people’s lives and I truly have found it. For one hour a day, I am granted the opportunity to have some kind of positive effect on a person’s life, whether that be physical, mental, or emotional.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I firmly believe that if you’re going to be a dreamer, you have to be a doer. Having said that, nothing worth having comes easy. I have struggled with tons of stuff along the way… depression, anxiety, body image, finances, I made a dynamic career shift when my wife was four months pregnant with our first son. You could say I like to do things the hard way. I love a good challenge.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Well… I am a CrossFit coach. CrossFit is simply defined as constantly varied, functional movements executed at high intensity. It is so much more than that though. We are truly trying to improve people’s lives in all aspects. I tell everyone that walks through the doors of 404 that if you can do 50 pullups, cool. Front squat a bunch of weight, cool. But what is really cool is when I see you happy inside and out of the gym. I see you spreading good to the world just like I try and do for them each and every day.
Personally, I try to improve your day-to-day life by not only coaching you through our class workouts but I am involved in your life… I want to know how your power clean feels but I also want to know how the new job is, what about your new significant other, what shows are you watching…
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Simply put care. Genuinely care about others and their well-being. People just want to feel heard and cared for and it’s so easy to do. Remember their name and just make an actual effort to better their day physically and mentally.
