Today we’d like to introduce you to Jenny Rose.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I have been drawn to photography for most of my life, but it wasn’t until I gave birth to my twins in 2010 that I decided to pursue it seriously. I never studied photography formally in school or anything but I found a wonderful community online (Click Community & Click Photo School) geared towards female photographers specifically, and I started taking courses and absorbing as much information as I could to hone my craft. Once I started seeing my skills advance I decided to try out photography professionally and began seeking out clients. I love how photography captures these glimpses of our lives in specific moments and the stories it tells. It has been an honor to be able to be a part of that process for other individuals and families.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I’m sure many (if not all!) artists can relate to feelings of “imposter syndrome” – feeling like you or your art isn’t good enough, that you don’t actually know what you’re doing or that recognition you receive isn’t deserved. It still takes effort on my part to trust myself and my abilities and not fall into the trap of thinking I am not good enough.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I have truly done a little bit of everything, from weddings and elopements to corporate headshots (even a birth!) and everything in between. The work I am most proud of though is when I have photographed couples and families in a documentary style – meaning I am in the background and photographing my subjects interacting, laughing, enjoying each other, no one looking at me and worrying about if their smile looks weird. Capturing those moments is what has been most meaningful in my personal work and I love getting to capture those for my clients as well.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
I’m a learner. If there’s something I don’t know or want to know, I go learn about it. That has been so beneficial to me in my photography journey since so much of my knowledge has been self-taught.
