Today we’d like to introduce you to Karley Millender-Morris.
Hi Karley, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My story began with a love for creativity and storytelling that has been a part of me since childhood. I launched Karmil Studios while still in undergrad. What started as a small freelance brand quickly became a reflection of who I am: a creative who finds meaning in connecting art, design, and purpose.
Even as I grew in my corporate career, Karmil Studios remained my creative home. I’ve worked with both small businesses and larger organizations, helping them define their voice, elevate their visuals, and tell their stories with authenticity. For me, design has never been just about how things look; it’s about how they feel.
Life shifted in beautiful and challenging ways when I became a mother. My son, who is autistic and communicates in his own powerful way, has completely transformed how I see creativity, patience, and purpose. His strength, light, and unique perspective have shaped me in ways I could have never imagined.
Between motherhood, graduate school, and a demanding corporate career, I had to put parts of my business on pause. Now that my son is thriving and I have completed my graduate degree, I’ve found a new balance and a renewed passion for Karmil Studios.
Today, I’m in a season of rebuilding and reimagining. I’m bringing my business back with more focus, heart, and intentionality than ever before. Karmil Studios represents resilience, growth, and grace through transition. My journey isn’t linear, but it’s honest, and that’s where the beauty truly lives.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Like many creatives, I’ve faced seasons where balancing my dreams with reality was a challenge. Managing a full-time corporate career while building Karmil Studios required long nights, tough choices, and a lot of faith in the process.
One of the most defining parts of my journey has been learning to navigate life as a working mother to a neurodivergent child. When that chapter began, everything shifted. I had to learn patience on a deeper level and redefine what balance truly looks like. There were moments of exhaustion and uncertainty, but also incredible lessons in grace, strength, and purpose.
There have been times when I questioned whether I could do it all. Finishing graduate school, showing up as a mom, wife, and friend, while still pouring into my creative passions, was not easy. But every challenge taught me resilience and reminded me that growth often happens in the quiet, in-between moments.
Even through the hard seasons, I’ve learned that obstacles don’t have to stop you. They can refine you, ground you, and prepare you for what’s next.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
At Karmil Studios, I specialize in creating meaningful visual stories through branding, design, photography, marketing, and user experience. My work blends creativity and strategy, bringing together the heart of art and the structure of design. I help people and businesses express who they are through visuals and digital experiences that feel intentional, emotive, and timeless.
I’m known for my multidisciplinary approach. I move between photography, graphic design, user experience, and creative direction, using each as a tool to tell stories that connect on a deeper level. What sets my work apart is the emotion behind it. Every project begins with understanding the “why” and translating that into something that not only looks beautiful but feels right.
I’m most proud of how Karmil Studios has evolved alongside me. It’s not just a creative business; it’s a reflection of resilience, growth, and the beauty of creating from life itself. As a mother, designer, and storyteller, I pour intention into everything I make, knowing that creativity has the power to heal, inspire, and bring people together.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
One of my favorite childhood memories is discovering my love for art in all its forms. I remember the excitement of realizing I could draw, paint, sew, and sculpt. Each new creative outlet felt like opening a door to another world waiting to be explored. I would spend hours experimenting with color, texture, and form, amazed that my imagination could take shape right in front of me.
I also remember sitting beside my granny as she drew floor plans of homes, complete with furniture and tiny details. Watching her bring those ideas to life on paper fascinated me. It was one of the first times I understood that creativity could be both beautiful and purposeful, and that realization has stayed with me ever since.
When I picked up my first film camera, everything changed. Photography allowed me to see life through a new lens, both literally and creatively. I started noticing light, texture, and emotion in everyday moments, and that perspective continues to guide me today.
Those early discoveries taught me that creativity isn’t just a talent. It is a way of seeing and feeling the world. That same sense of wonder still fuels everything I do.
