Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Williams, Ed.S.
Hi Lisa, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Many years ago as a college student, I wrote a poem and after I read it in class. The teacher and students were moved by my choice of words. I have always wrote in journals, wrote poems, and small stories. Writing has always been my peaceful activity.
As an educator during the pandemic, we started to implement SEL activities (Social Emotional Learning). The activities did not represent the population that I teach/educate. I noticed that students were just tired of the boring activities. At that moment, I decided to become a children’s author and create characters that represent the students I teach.
So, I created nine affirmations characters for girls and I called them Aloria’s Angels. www.aloriasangels.com. These characters are all unique with lovely features and they look like the students I teach.
I just wanted to give students and teachers an activity book for students that included journal and coloring pages; that will encourage beginning students to write and read. That is how the book Aloria’s Angels was created. Also, I created my company Chandra Ink, LLC.
I am the CEO and owner of Chandra Ink, LLC. I am an inspiring best-selling children’s author. The book is titled “Aloria’s Angels”.
Also, I own a T-shirt shop online www.lessalips.myshopify.com.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road to becoming a children’s author have it struggles. Sometimes it is very hard when you are just beginning with promotions, marketing, and traveling. I remember being so nervous my first book signing. I was scared and restless. But it turned out to be a total success. I sold 50 copies of my first book signing. I was overjoyed. The obstacles that I face is traveling to all the book shows all over the world. I wish I could attend every single one! But over this past year, I have learned that what is meant to happen will happen on its on time. Struggles will transform into success stories.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am an inspiring best-selling children’s author. My passion is to create stories and publications that will encourage students to read and write. I consider myself privileged to merge two passions together teaching and writing. I love to go to my special place and create characters and themes. I have so many in my head. I can not wait to bring them to life on paper.
My purpose in this new journey is to change young readers through print, stories, characters, and affirmations.
My proudest moment is when I hit the button publish on my first project Aloria’s Angels (www.aloriasangels.com). That moment is forever embedded in my heart. Also, the moment that I searched Amazon, Walmart, and Barnes & Noble and I saw my name and my book on the internet! For sale. In that moment, my face felt happy tears for dream and destination had been fulfilled.
What sets me apart from others is my creative mind, imagination, and different point of view. I love to laugh, to love to debate, I love to create unique books and I love to explore.
My willingness to be transparent with my creative visions and write from my heart and soul is what makes me so unique.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
As a children’s author a mentor is necessary. I have mentors (yes, more than one) because we need that support to give us advice, guide us, and encourage you to follow your passion. In addition to having a mentor, you need to network along with having a network. Networking is one of the keys to maintaining a business and a passion. Networking and having mentors has been an essential element for me as an inspiring best-selling children’s author.

We need more women of color willing to step out on faith and lend their time and talents to our youth. Lisa, thank you for mirroring to young people the image of black excellence!

I actually enjoyed this article. It’s so important that children have different avenues to learn because no child is the same. To be an educator and being able to see first hand where children are struggling in areas of learning, it’s really awesome that you’ve used your experience to create a book for them Definitely a must have Christmas gift for my nieces and nephews.
