Daily Inspiration: Meet Liyah Katana

Today we’d like to introduce you to Liyah Katana.

Hi Liyah, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I released my first project, “FOREVALIYAH” on October 11th, 2021 when I was 18. Since then, I have been performing at festivals in and around my city. That plus the growing fans help my EP gain 5 million streams and 1 million views on my “Always There” debut music video. This project takes a closer look at the artist I’m becoming. The “FOREVALIYAH” project will take you through a variety of sounds and styles. This project has helped get me on some major playlists and opened doors for me that I manifested. What I am working on now has been careful curated and planned out, I am so excited for you guys to see what I have coming next!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Something that I had to learn along the way is that you don’t know what you don’t know. Being so young entering the music industry, it can be very intimidating for some people especially when working with new people, dealing with different energies, having to be vulnerable around people you just met. I had to learn very early on that if I wanted to be successful in any way, I had to listen and be receptive to new ways of working and performing. As much as you love your creation, you don’t know what you don’t know and you have to be open to receiving that and letting go because the next record may be a hit even though the last maybe your favourite. My journey as an artist will forever be a work in progress and I will always be open to learning and elevating to the highest.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a singer, songwriter, and performer. I grew up singing in the church so before anything, I am a music lover. I grew outside of the church listening to Aaliyah, Whitney Houston and Brandy to name a few. Pulling from those inspirations, I would study them and apply that in my career. I want people to hear and feel how I interpret music. I will always bring a genuine heart with me no matter what I do. I am a creative and you have to feel my creation. I always love cooking and baking, lol.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I have been very blessed in my career to have met the people who have brought me so far in such little time. I believe that God/the universe will give you what you put out. If you work hard and prioritize your time. You will reap what you sow. Nothing in life comes easy so you really have to go after your goals no matter what. Luck is for those without preparation.
