Today we’d like to introduce you to London Elixir.
Hi London, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always been into music. I started playing piano in the 8th grade and was introduced to music production in high school. From there, I treated it as a hobby at first, but began taking it seriously in 2016. I completed a music production program with The Recording Connection and began working out of my first studio in my hometown of Columbus, Ohio. After that, I moved to Atlanta to be a part of the music scene here. In 2019, I quit my job to be a full-time music producer and I’ve been my own boss ever since! I wrote a book about it called “PTO: Prayed Time Off” to help inspire others to live in their true purpose as well.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. Some of the struggles along the way definitely include the financial commitment you have to be willing to make. You have to be your biggest supporter, and that includes investing in yourself. I worked a corporate job for three years to save up money to pay for the music school, move to Atlanta, fund music equipment, go to festivals to network, etc. I hated that job but was able to use it as a stepping stool to get myself to where I needed to be in order to make the switch to full-time entrepreneurship.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Primarily, I am a music producer. I offer custom music production services, and I offer leasing options for artists who may not be able to invest in exclusives yet. I specialize in diversity as far as genres go. This is what sets me apart. I’ve created hip hop, r&b, pop, funk, holiday, trap, etc. I’m most known for my modern-day feel good records. I have an EP out now entitled “Listen to M3” where I hand-selected artists to feature over my production. I also engineer, which is always a great skill to have as a producer.
In addition to being a music producer, I am an author. My book “PTO: Prayed Time Off” is about how I quit my job to do music full time and how others can prepare to do what they love for a living as well. I also converted the book into an online course, “BYOB: Be Your Own Boss” which is an interactive 9-week experience that takes the topics from the book and helps people apply them to their own situations. I also just launched three lines of merchandise for my brand, beats, and book! All are available on my website!
The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
Covid-19 has definitely taught me the importance of adaptability. My plans for 2020 were very different than what ended up taking place. Being stuck in the house took away a lot of opportunities to meet new people, go to studio sessions, events, etc. So, I had to find another way to keep my business afloat. This is why I decided to release my book that year. It’s something that you don’t have to leave the house to get and benefit from. The same is true for the online course. Originally, I envisioned doing in-person workshops but wanted to make it available to everyone and convenient.
