Daily Inspiration: Meet Patrick Blake

Today we’d like to introduce you to Patrick Blake.

Hi Patrick, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
We came together back in 2013. Just a handful of guys needing to share machinery, materials, resources, and a helping hand from each other. It started as a true collective and grew from there. The name B10 came from our original building number at the Metropolitan (now the MET) in West End. My partners and I official became B10 Union the company in 2020. After seven years operating in Reynoldstown we have upgraded our shop and moved to East Point at the beginning of this year.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There has been plenty of growing pains, but we also grew organically while doing what we love. So no complaints about our journey.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Being that we a custom furniture company we seldom reproduce the exact same piece of furniture more than once. When a client comes to us they are normally looking for something unique or looking for something to serve a purpose that buying something of the shelf will not solve. We are not often told what to build but asked to be creative and find a solution. We work with mainly wood and steel to create one off residential pieces to furniture packages for entire restaurants. I would say we are most proud of the relationships we create with our clients. That and having our furniture all around town in the establishment we frequent.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
The best way to network, we have found is to just create relationships. Find someone who does something cool or something you have interest in and invite them to the shop for a beer. Even if it’s an industry that is not related to you yours. You would be surprised how that could turn into business down the road.
