Today we’d like to introduce you to Seth Gehle.
Hi Seth, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born and raised in Northwest Ohio to a single mother of three kids. Most of my childhood was marked by extreme trauma, neglect, and abuse. I was exposed to p*rn and being molested as early as five years old. As I got older, my mother eventually became abusive and addicted to crack and cocaine, which led me to finding love outside of the home. I would eventually be sexually abused by a man outside of the home from the time I was 10 years old until nearly 16 years old when I finally found the courage to report my abuser. Since that day in 2011, I have gone on to serve my country as a combat veteran, I am a husband and a father, I have run seven ultra marathons, including a 100 mile race and now I am a public speaker and author. In just 30 short years, I have lived a lot of life, and I am using my experiences to help others find their untapped potential to become whatever they desire to be in life.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
My life has been a constant struggle for the most part. After growing up in a home surrounded by drugs and violence and being sexually abused, I dealt with a massive identity, crisis and impostor syndrome during my time in the military. Not only was I battling suicidal ideation on a daily basis, but I was in charge of leading other men in combat, and I couldn’t tell anyone what it happened to me when I was a child. Although joining the military was one of the best decisions that I ever made, I barely made it out alive due to my own mental health. And my adulthood, I battled with a lot of depression, anxiety, and an overall sense of victimhood. I have blamed everyone and everything else for anything negative that has happened to me. I couldn’t accept blame or take responsibility for anything in my life until I was nearly 30 years old. I have struggled with hate and resentment. I have struggled with mother and father wounds. I have struggled with my own sense of self in my ability to love and to be loved.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a motivational speaker and author. I am known for my ability to be extremely real, raw and authentic during my storytelling. I get a lot of credit for my ability to articulate some of the worst experiences that you can have as a child. I am known for helping people Find their path to Hope and healing from a lifetime of trauma, but also for helping people who have not had it as bad as other others, but are still looking for a way to build a relentless and tenacious mindset the thing that I am most proud of in my life is the impact that I have made on so many people. I don’t obsess over vanity metrics like followers, likes, or a verified blue checkmark on Instagram. The metrics that I am most proud of are the amount of times I have been told that I saved somebody’s life or that I save somebody’s marriage or they finally understand themselves and their trauma, after hearing my story. The number one thing that sets me apart from others is my ability to be incredibly vulnerable and authentic. My past is very dark and tragic like many others, but most people are not able to explain an articulate the circumstances and the emotions that come with it the way that I do.
What matters most to you?
Impact. I am in the impact business. Everything that I do makes an impact on somebody. That person who I help will eventually help somebody else one day and the cycle will continue. I want to turn my pain into a story. I want to recycle everything that I have been through for something great in this world. My name will be forgotten within the next 100 years by the impact, will continue forever.
