Exploring Life & Business with James Kirklin II of The Intellectual Stew, LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to James Kirklin II

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Hi, I’m James H. Kirklin II—a podcaster, preacher, entrepreneur, and speaker passionate about uplifting individuals and communities. My mission? To shine a light on the path to personal and collective growth while inspiring others to embrace their better selves.

I grew up in North Little Rock, Arkansas, where my parents instilled in me the importance of hard work, responsibility, and ensuring that future generations have purpose and ambition. Those early lessons shaped my perspective on life and my commitment to helping others rise above their circumstances.

My journey hasn’t been without challenges. After going through a painful divorce after 20 years of marriage, I found myself in a difficult place—emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. I was stuck, both physically and figuratively, on my couch, struggling to move forward. But through self-reflection, faith, and an unwavering belief that there was more for me, I began to rebuild my life. That experience became the foundation for my book, Stuck on the Couch, where I share my journey of loss, self-discovery, and resilience. My goal is to help others who feel trapped by life’s setbacks find the strength to get up and get on the path to better.

Since delivering my first sermon in 1994, I’ve been on a mission to impact lives. In 2004, I founded Bridging the Gap Ministries in Dalton, GA, followed by Bridging the Gap Community Organizers in Atlanta, GA—both dedicated to meeting people where they are and equipping them with the tools to overcome life’s challenges.

I hold a BA in Community and International Economic Development from Beulah Heights University and a Master’s in Public Administration from Grand Canyon University. Whether through speaking engagements, blog posts, volunteering with local churches, or my podcast, The Intellectual Stew with James Kirklin, I am committed to sparking change, offering hope, and guiding others toward transformation.

More than anything, I believe in the power of faith and perseverance. I’m dedicated to making a difference in disadvantaged communities and bridging the gap between the church and the people it serves. While I see myself as a work in progress, I know that every step forward helps expand the cause of Christ and empowers others to find their purpose—one community at a time.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road definitely has not been a smooth one, although I must admit most of my struggles have been self-inlicted. I have received the results of my bad decisions, I have faced financial challenges, joblessness, and divorce after a 20 year marriage. So, yes, I have seen my share of struggles.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I could be petty and say that if it wasn´t for bad luck, I wouldn´t have any luck at all. But, that would be an incomplete story. I am an avid believer that ¨the steps of a good man are ordered¨ and that ¨all things work together for the good.¨ Whether the luck was good or bad, I am right where I am suppoed to be.
