Today we’d like to introduce you to Leng Yang.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
What began as a personal quest evolved into a family-run establishment dedicated to delivering bold, flavorful barbecue that deviates from the traditional. The crazy thing is, we never wanted a restaurant but after some course-altering life events happened one after another within a nine-month span, what else could go wrong? Between a ruptured brain aneurysm, cancer, and being laid off from our jobs, one thing became very clear: God is good, no matter what. Some of the worse things that could have happened have, so what is there to fear? So, let’s go out and see where this takes us and perhaps some of you will join us on our journey.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Some of the struggles we faced were delays in the build and permitting and our air conditioning going out in the middle of Summer.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about It’s Different BBQ Co.?
We are a family-owned and operated business and one of our core goals is to help foster worthwhile relationships and bring families & friends together through delicious meals.
Our motto, “Gather with BBQ” encapsulates our belief that sharing great food creates opportunities for people to spend quality time together and engage in meaningful conversations over a shared love of BBQ.
To accomplish that goal, we’re redefining Southern Barbecue with bold, seasoned meats and a take-out-only model designed for busy families. Our menu is 100% gluten-free and includes options for dairy-free, soy-free, and nut-free diets. From our aggressively trimmed brisket to our flavorful pulled pork, every dish is crafted with high-quality ingredients and a unique blend of spices. Our commitment to quality and convenience makes us a go-to spot for locals seeking delicious barbecue.
We are especially known for being a dedicated gluten-free restaurant and that has been such an honor to be able to serve this specific community. We’ve had people drive more than an hour or two to eat at our restaurant and some even have come out of state to be able to have the entire menu as an option to eat from without fear of getting sick. Our family has no food allergies and we made this decision because many of our personal friends shared that they couldn’t eat the same meals as their families or couldn’t go out to eat due to the risk of getting sick from cross contamination.
Although we are a gluten-free establishment, we have many non-gluten free patrons who enjoy the food just as much. Most people who visit once or multiple times come for our brisket, pork spare ribs, and our specials (i.e. brisket fried rice, pork steaks and both dino beef ribs & beef short ribs).
We pack everything to go, but do have some bar seating for those who just want a quick bite before heading back to work or home.
