Today we’d like to introduce you to Miekei Thomas.
Hi Miekei, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I was born and raised in Morristown NJ. I moved to Georgia in 2007. I started doing taxes because I wanted to know more about the process. Every year we know it has to be done but most people don’t know why. Then there are so many people scammed out of money and not getting them done properly. In 2012 I decided to learn the proper way. I found a mentor, went through the IRS website took classes. Started going to forums and really dedicated myself into learning. In 2022 I started my company. Miekei Notary and Tax. I put my all into my business. I take pride into what I do, and the training i put my tax pro’s through. It’s not easy, there are thousands of tax companies out here a person could go to, but I think what makes me stand out is I’m only in competition with myself. My clients know I’m dedicated to them. My reviews, word of mouth, and knowledge says it all. Since covid I have virtual offices open all throughout Georgia and the east coast. I am considering opening up a brick and mortar but for now the virtual offices work for me.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has been a struggle. You are up some days and down some. Finding new clients outside of tax season and keeping them loyal.
Being a small business owner you fight with big businesses like Turbo Tax and H and R Block.
Taking time to train new employees then they take what you taught them and leave. But you take the good and bad and keep moving.
As you know, we’re big fans of Miekei Notary and Tax . For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
At Miekei Notary & Tax, we believe taxes don’t have to feel stressful or impersonal. We bring a boutique-style approach to tax preparation—personalized, attentive, and focused on building long-term relationships. Every client matters, and we make sure you feel seen, heard, and understood.
We specialize in individual and small business tax preparation, notary services, and year-round financial guidance. Our focus is on accuracy, maximizing refunds (or minimizing tax liability), and helping you understand your numbers so you can make smarter financial decisions.
We’re known for going the extra mile—whether that’s explaining tax law in plain English, being available to answer your questions, or offering flexible and convenient service options (virtual or in-person). Clients trust us because we make the process easy, transparent, and stress-free.
Unlike big-box tax prep companies, we don’t treat you like a number. Our service is boutique-style, meaning we customize our approach to your unique situation. You get direct access to a knowledgeable professional—not a rotating door of seasonal workers. With us, you’re family.
We’re proud of creating a brand that represents trust, integrity, and personal care. Our reputation has grown not just from preparing taxes, but from educating and empowering our clients to feel more confident about their financial journey.
What do we want readers to know about our brand, offerings, and services?
We want you to know that our services go beyond filing a tax return. We offer:
Tax Preparation (Individuals & Businesses)
Notary Services
Year-Round Financial Support
Personalized Consultations & Education
We’re not just here for you during tax season—we’re here all year long to help you plan, prepare, and succeed
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Find someone that will stick it out through the good and bad. Not afraid to be honest and give the bold truth.
Join professional tax associations (like NATP, NAEA, or your local chamber of commerce). These often have mentorship programs or experienced preparers who are open to guiding new business owners.
Seek Someone Ahead of You
A mentor doesn’t have to be in your city—look for someone who’s 5–10 years ahead of where you want to be. Even if they’re in another state, virtual mentorship works well.
