Today we’d like to introduce you to Zenobia Haynes
Hi Zenobia, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I began my career in permitting working as a Permit Technician for the City of Atlanta, Department of City Planning. During my time there I gained an abundance of knowledge in the field of residential and commercial construction and permitting. While in this role, I received my International Code Council permit technician certification. I was also trained on how to read various types of blue prints including architectural drawings, site plans and more. While still employed with the City of Atlanta during the height of Covid-19, we transitioned to working from home full time. This transition caused a lot of local municipalities to convert to electronic submissions only.
There are plenty of “permit expediters” in the Metro Atlanta area, but I noticed the demand for millennial expediters who know how to navigate through the complexities of electronic submissions. Also, expediters who are familiar and experienced with the permitting process, who understand building codes, zoning ordinances and more. Permitting can be an extremely daunting task and most people do not realize what is needed to open a physical business or begin any type of construction. Nine2Six Solutions was created as a resource for those in need of reliable one-on-one assistance walking you through the permitting process. As permit expediters, we offer expert guidance and streamline the process for our clients which saves time and frees up our clients responsibilities so they can focus on other aspects of their project.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Although we permit across the Metro Atlanta area the bulk of our clientele is within the City of Atlanta. One of the challenges we face daily is understanding the permitting processes in the various municipalities across the metro area as the steps to obtain a permit can be different depending on the jurisdiction. As permitting experts, it is our responsibility to do the research prior to submission to ensure an accurate submittal with the least amount of revisions.
We are approaching two years in business, and as any business owner in the service industry knows building continuous clientele can also be a challenge. We have definitely ramped up our clientele since launching, but we are looking to build continued working relationships with developers, contractors, and design professionals who can utilize our permitting services on a more continuous basis as new projects come in for them. Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
As previously mentioned, I credit my permitting knowledge to my time spent working in the Department of City Planning. As an employee, I established a lot of professional working relationships in this space. The many plan reviewers, supervisors and other permit technicians there were always in great support of me stepping out and launching my business and they continue to be.
My husband, who also has permitting experience and expediting knowledge deserves a lot of credit as well as he is who encouraged me to start this business and offer these type of services to the public. He also brings in a lot of new clientele and is always readily available if we need to do an in person submission or visit a municipality to check on the progress of a project in person.
I would also like to give credit to my social media manager, @diamondinnovationsmarketing who has helped to build our Instagram profile to retain more clientele by creating informational content/posts that people in our community can refer back to at any time.
