Hidden Gems: Meet Alfred Brown of The Muscle Movers

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alfred Brown.

Hi Alfred, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My business partner, Justin Foster, and I established our company in May of 2016. The company started with two college students trying to make way for themselves. We saw a need in the community, and they saw fit for a more affordable, efficient way of that. This is why we formed our business entity known as The Muscle Movers. In the beginning, we would move furniture after football practice with only a Chevy Trailblazer and a U-Haul trailer. Since then, we have been blessed enough to have 2-3 trucks on the road every day moving clients all across the United States. Our business has been thoroughly blessed through the pandemic. Although finding other methods of generating revenue was difficult, we were able to brainstorm and overcome.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
In my time on this earth, I have learned that if the road wasn’t hard, the destination was not worth the drive. The road has been bumpy, but I would not have changed the route I have taken for anything. The biggest struggle we have faced was the learning curve of starting our own business. Although we had industry experience, there were still many aspects we didn’t know. When we were faced with a challenge, we had to go back to the main business plan. We changed that original plan over 20 times.

One challenge that sticks out is the Regions New Venture Challenge. Basically, it is an annual business pitch challenge, similar to shark tank but the Samford version. We entered that challenge for four years straight, and every year we would fall short until we didn’t. We went back to the drawing board every time; despite disappointment and frustrations, we were determined to produce the best pitch we could. After starting to venture out on our own, we quickly realized that we were significantly laking capital. That is why we were so determined to win the Regions New Venture. This journey has been filled with many turns and twists that would make some people quit, but successes will eventually come if those challenges fuel you.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
I wouldn’t be an entrepreneur without mentioning; I co-own a kennel called Trouble’s Bully Camp. We have American bulldogs and Frenchies; if anyone is interested, contact @_abtv or @nw95trouble via Instagram.

With all that being said, I pride myself on my work ethic, integrity, and love for helping others. All three of these values have been instilled in me from a young age by God, my parents, and my various mentors. I would be nowhere in life without the people around me. The success I achieved wouldn’t be possible without those integral people and teachings in my life.
