Hidden Gems: Meet Dolapo Babalola of Living At Your Finest Wellness

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dolapo Babalola.

Dolapo Babalola

Hi Dolapo, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Yes, I am happy to do so. Thanks for the opportunity. Living At Your Finest Wellness is a Membership-Based Direct Primary Care Practice serving Cobb County in East Cobb, Marietta. As a Family, Obesity, and Lifestyle Medicine Physician, I provide full-spectrum family medicine services such as acute and urgent care, chronic care, mental and women’s health, minor office procedures, lifestyle and weight wellness optimization, preventative care, physicals, and screening.

My area of expertise and passion is helping Individuals and Families Live At Their Finest Well-being using a Holistic and Healthy Lifestyle approach to prevent, treat, and, in most cases, reverse chronic lifestyle-related diseases. I was motivated to start my business after being frustrated by the traditional healthcare system of over 16 years.

I decided it was time to give my patients the time and attention they deserved and for me to experience purpose satisfaction and prioritize my well-being. Unfortunately, the Traditional Healthcare System is a sick care system that focuses more on the quantity and quality of healthcare. Due to the 15- 20-minute time slot to see patients, we never really get to the root cause, and we bandage many symptoms with medications.

After suffering from chronic lifestyle-related diseases due to a lack of self-care and inadequate knowledge of how lifestyle habits have a more significant role in health than our genetics, I sought out additional training in Lifestyle and Obesity Medicine to first heal myself to health restoration, which empowered me to treat my patients, instead of managing their diseases. With adequate time and early intervention, I can help patients aim for health optimization instead of avoiding diseases.

This is when Living At Your Finest Wellness (LAYF Wellness) was born. There is no better way to practice this form of medicine, which is well-care than to open up my practice where I can take out the middleman that dictates how much time I spend with my patients and the quality of care I provide. What sets me apart from others and what I am most excited about: My patients are assured of receiving patient-centered services and I adapt a Holistic and Integrative Approach to every visit.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Great question! I have two responses. Yes, it has been smooth because I can now serve my patients and community as they deserve without the interference of the insurance companies prioritizing quantity over quality. I have enough time to provide comprehensive, compassionate, convenient, collaborative, and cost-effective.

No, because I struggled initially with learning the business side of medicine. I am not fond of marketing, which I need to do to grow my business. Even though I have been practicing medicine for over 16 years, growing my practice from the ground up and cultivating the “love, know, and like “has yet to be smooth, and it has moved slower than anticipated. But I am hopeful because I am a lifelong learner.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
What sets me apart is that I am profoundly committed to helping individuals and families thrive by fostering a healthy lifestyle that nourishes the body, mind, and spirit. The whole-person health is vital for sustainable and transformative well-being.

At LAYF Wellness, my vision of fostering vibrant communities through evidence-based and holistic approaches stretches beyond the typical healthcare services. I believe in “Skills over Pills” and “Wellcare over Sickcare,” I imbue my practice with a passion for educating and empowering my patients and community to live their finest lives.

I am most proud of being a community builder, team player, and believer in a multidisciplinary approach. One of my favorite quotes is, “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together. No man is an island; we all need each other with our gifts to support our community holistically. I love to help my patients and community collaboratively so I partner with physicians, providers, and health advocates.

Some of my community engagements include partnering with the Walk With A Doc organization to promote health and wellness through movement and conversation. I want the readers to know I have several offerings and services to support their health and wellness. As a Family Medicine Physician with expertise in Lifestyle and Obesity Medicine, I use the Membership-Based Direct Primary Care Model to care for patients.

This practice model allows me to provide quality care in 3 main ways;

Direct: I work for my patients directly without the interference of insurance or Big Pharma. It is patient-centered.

Primary: From cradle to cane, I care for 90% of healthcare services such as acute and urgent care, Chronic care, mental and women’s health, minor office procedures, lifestyle and weight wellness optimization with an InBody Composition Analysis Scan, preventative care, physicals, and screening.

Care: comprehensive, compassionate, collaborative, convenient, and cost-effective with a holistic and integrative focus.

In addition, I offer special services to patients who aren’t members of the practice and are interested in lifestyle and weight wellness optimization.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
I have three to share. My first piece of advice is my biggest one, which is that Anyone starting a business should be patient with themselves and give themselves grace. I wish I practiced this early in my business career, as it might have eliminated a lot of stress.

My second comes from one of my favorite quotes by Henry Ford: “Anyone who stops learning is old, whether at twenty or eighty. Anyone who keeps learning stays young.” This is so true, especially when starting a business. You never arrive and must keep asking questions from people who have walked the business journey.

I love quotes, so I will share another to highlight my third piece of advice. Health Is the Greatest Wealth. As entrepreneurs, we need to prioritize our health and wellness so we aren’t forced to stop our business to care for an illness. The pillars of lifestyle medicine, such as nourishing nutrition, physical activities, restorative sleep, stress management, social connection, and avoidance of substances, are essential to well-being.
