Hidden Gems: Meet Julia Gavin of The Yoga Academy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Julia Gavin.

Hi Julia, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I founded The Yoga Academy during lockdown as I was unable to return to my yoga resort in Goa. I’ve since ran over 12 Yoga Teacher Trainings in Liverpool and work with an awesome crew of yoga instructors.

I am an advocate for the structure of Ashtanga Yoga, the potential of functional movement, the rhythm of Vinyasa Flow, the intrigue of anatomy and the playfulness of Rocket Club, all underpinned with the intention of being the modern day yogi.

The Yoga Academy is specialised in:

Yoga Anatomy
Rocket Vinyasa & Progressive Ashtanga
Adjustments
Vinyasa Flow Sequencing
The 21st Century Yogi debate

We continue to evolve both our 200 hr and 300 hr curricula, bringing together traditional methods and modern thinking. Throughout the year, we run 200 hour yoga teacher trainings and 300 hour yoga teacher training modules. Our graduates and teaching crew teach at studios throughout Liverpool. In the winter months, we hang out on the backwaters of Goa at Palm Trees Yoga Resort.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
In general, we have had a pretty smooth journey as word spreads about the courses that we run. Both myself and Kate have a Post Grad Certificate in Education. This is evident in our courses and the learning journey of our students.

In an increasingly competitive environment, we continue to share practice and run quality courses.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
We offer Yoga Teacher Training and Profession Development Courses, We have an amazing community of yoga teachers across Liverpool and we continue to grow through The Yoga Academy brand. Many of our graduates are teaching yoga in studios across Liverpoool.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I don’t believe in good/back love although I have let my business grow organically, taking advantage of opportunities that come my way. I took a huge risk in leaving life in Liverpool to pursue a career as a yoga teacher in Goa. This allows me to spend half of the year in Liverpool and the colder months at my yoga school in Goa.

Pricing:

  • Yoga Teacher Training at weekends in Liverpool is £1999
  • Yoga Teacher Training at weekends in Goa is from 1800 euros.
