Today we’d like to introduce you to Kamber Parker.
Hi Kamber, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Originally from Baltimore, Maryland, I came to the Southeast for college and never returned to my hometown. I fell in love with Greenville, South Carolina and have been fortunate to find a place with such a strong community to build my business.
While my business takes up a large part of my life, I do love my life outside of work too. I have a fiancé and we have just started to plan our wedding; I have an extremely supportive family that I know I am fortunate to have; and I have wonderful friends who have cheered me on from day one with my business. When I’m not hanging out with these great people, you can find me running on the local Swamp Rabbit Trail in Greenville, practicing yoga, or reading.
Now, we can get to The YoPro Know!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Of course not! There have been and continue to be struggles because we are a small – but mighty – young business. With every step and sometimes – mistakes – I take a step back and assess, determine what could have been different, and make a plan to never let it happen again. Similarly, when something goes very well, I keep practicing it and measure it to ensure I can continue to perform in the best capacity for my clients.
As you know, we’re big fans of The YoPro Know. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I started this business as a blog nearly five years ago after a first career experience that forced me to get a creative outlet. Once I realized my blog, where I interviewed young professionals from 21-39 years old from across the country, was a platform that was providing insight to what young professionals need to succeed in the workplace, I knew it was a tool I could share with businesses and make money doing it one day.
We specialize in helping businesses increase their recruiting and retention practices of young professional talent. Talent conversations are not going away anytime soon, so having a third party to support your strategy using our 5+ years of research is a great tool for your business.
I am most proud of our brand because we have interviewed nearly 1,000 young professionals across the country in various stages of life, regions, and industries. We’ve covered their struggles and successes in an open and vulnerable way, and it’s not just looking at the numbers. We have real stories to tell and have developed formulas using this data to help businesses increase young professional retention, which will have a significant impact on our future workforce.
It has been amazing to watch the business grow while I have experienced my young professional career. I took this consulting business full-time in 2022 and haven’t looked back since.
What does success mean to you?
Since I am such a goal-oriented person, I naturally think of success as the achievement of a goal. However, as I’ve grown my business, I’ve learned that success is not always achieving goals but rather learning how to pivot when you don’t reach a goal. Maybe something better has come along and you need to reassess those goals, or maybe something in your life has changed. Whatever it may be, my definition of success has changed to reflect how you react to difficult situations and where you go from there.
