Today we’d like to introduce you to K’AO.
Hi K’AO, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I was born with creativity flowing through me, but I didn’t fully realize it until middle school in Ewing, New Jersey. That was where I first picked up the oboe, an instrument that challenged me and taught me discipline, patience, and how to express emotions through sound. Sitting in the band room, learning to breathe correctly, and turning notes into melodies, I discovered how music could be more than just entertainment—it was a language, a story without words.
When my family relocated to Georgia during my high school years, it felt like stepping into an entirely new world. Being “the new face” wasn’t easy, but the arts always had a way of connecting people. I gravitated toward classmates who, like me, lived and breathed creativity. We bonded over music, drawing, poetry, and even the joy of freestyle sessions in the cafeteria. For me, poetry was never just words—it was rhythm, emotion, and vision. I spent countless nights scribbling lyrical ballads, pouring my soul onto paper, not knowing yet that those pages would become part of my identity as a music artist.
It was during this time I became close friends with someone who would go on to be recognized worldwide as a gifted producer. Back then, he wasn’t in a studio—he was at the desk, tapping out beats with pencils, creating rhythms with his hands that filled the classroom with energy. I’ll never forget the “two pencil, two hand” desk beats or the hilarious “back seat big cheese” beats we’d laugh about. It was raw, authentic, and the foundation of our shared dream.
A few months later, a group of us decided to take a leap—we were going to build our own home studio. What seemed simple at first quickly turned into a crash course in perseverance. Wiring equipment, saving money, teaching ourselves how to record properly—it was far from easy. But determination kept us moving, and together we transformed obstacles into opportunities. The studio became our sacred space, where our imagination turned into sound and our ideas into songs.
After graduation, life inevitably pulled some of us in different directions. Some pursued other careers, some left music behind, but for me, the passion never faded. My love for music, art, culture—and yes, food—remained constant. I stayed consistent in the studio, creating and collaborating. One of my proudest moments was working with LO’ GETEM BEATZ to release our single Kraving Nsane. The track was filled with energy and heart, and while it didn’t travel as far as I dreamed, it was proof that I was carving out my space in the music world.
And then came the storms. Life hit harder than I expected. I faced homelessness, feeling the sting of abandonment from people I once called family and friends. There were nights when I questioned everything my purpose, my strength, my worth. As a mother, I felt like I had failed. As an artist, I felt like I had lost. The weight of disappointment, rejection, and instability often left me believing I wasn’t enough.
But even in those darkest moments, my pen never left my hand. Writing became my survival. Prayer became my guide. I turned my pain into prayer and my prayer into strength. I made a decision to keep going, even when it hurt.
Still, life has a way of testing you. Challenges, setbacks, and unexpected turns forced me to re-evaluate. Instead of giving up, I turned inward. I prayed, I reflected, and I realized that my calling wasn’t just in creating music but in helping others shape their artistry. I enrolled in Strayer University to pursue a bachelor’s degree in business, determined to merge my creativity with strategy. I never stopped writing lyrics or keeping my pen game sharp, but now I was also sharpening my understanding of the industry itself.
And then, the doors opened again. My passion, my persistence, and my faith led me to a new role within the very culture I grew up in. I became part of GETEM GANG MUSIC GROUP this time not just as an artist, but as the Artist Development and Booking Manager. It was a natural evolution. I had lived the grind, felt the struggles, and understood the dreams of artists firsthand. Now, I was in a position to guide others, to nurture talent, and to open doors for the next generation.
From the oboe in Ewing to building makeshift studios in Georgia, from lyrical ballads in my notebook to managing artists in professional spaces, my journey has been one of transformation. I didn’t just become part of the music industry I grew into a role where I could shape it, leaving a mark not only as an artist but as a leader, a developer, and a believer in the power of music.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Life hit harder than I expected. I faced homelessness, feeling the sting of abandonment from people I once called family and friends. There were nights when I questioned everything—my purpose, my strength, my worth. As a mother, I felt like I had failed. As an artist, I felt like I had lost. The weight of disappointment, rejection, and instability often left me believing I wasn’t enough.
As you know, we’re big fans of GETEM GANG MUSIC GROUP . For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
At GETEM GANG MUSIC GROUP, we live and breathe music—but not just music as sound, music as a journey. Our mission is to create opportunities for artists to discover, develop, and share their gifts with the world while also providing them with the structure, support, and strategy to thrive in today’s industry.
We specialize in artist development and booking management, guiding creatives from raw talent into well-rounded artists ready for bigger stages. What sets us apart is that our foundation comes from real-life experience—we’ve lived the artist grind, from writing lyrics in notebooks and building home studios, to facing life’s toughest obstacles, to finally finding purpose not only as creators but as leaders in the industry. Because of that, we understand both the creative side and the business side of the music world, bridging the gap between passion and professionalism.
We’re known for our hands-on approach with our artists. Instead of offering a one-size-fits-all strategy, we take the time to learn each artist’s story, strengths, and vision. Whether it’s developing stage presence, refining lyrical style, building brand identity, or securing bookings and collaborations, we pride ourselves on being a team that truly invests in our talent.
What sets our brand apart is our authenticity and resilience. We aren’t just building music careers—we’re building confidence, opportunities, and community. We’ve faced challenges like homelessness, setbacks, and rejection, and yet those very struggles have become our strength. They allow us to connect with artists on a deeper level and help them navigate the same challenges with guidance and support.
Brand-wise, one of the things we’re most proud of is staying true to our roots while continuing to grow. From humble beginnings with makeshift studios and handwritten lyrics, to now managing and developing artists under a recognized music group, we’ve built something real and lasting.
What we want readers to know is this: our brand isn’t just about making hits—it’s about making impact. We want to see artists win in every sense, not just musically, but personally and professionally. Our offerings include artist development, booking management, career coaching, branding guidance, and creative collaboration. And at the heart of it all is a deep love for music, culture, and people.
If you’re an artist, a music lover, or someone who believes in the power of art to transform lives, then you’re already a part of what we represent.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I’ve learned that in the music industry and in life there is no growth without risk. Every time you share a piece of your art, every time you step into a room where you don’t know how people will receive you, you’re taking a risk. But it’s those very moments of uncertainty that lead to the biggest breakthroughs.
One of the major risks I took was when I invested my time, energy, and money into building music from scratch with friends in high school. We didn’t have all the tools or resources, but we believed in ourselves enough to try. Later, I took another big leap by releasing my single Kraving Nsane. At the time, it felt like I was putting my whole soul out there, and when it didn’t reach the heights I had hoped, it stung. But looking back, I see it as one of the most important risks I ever took because it taught me resilience and prepared me for everything that came after.
The biggest risk, though, was personal choosing to keep going when life knocked me down hardest. Facing homelessness, feeling abandoned by people I trusted, and questioning my worth as a mother, an artist, and a woman all of that could have made me give up. But instead, I took the risk of believing in myself again. I went back to school for business, shifted gears in the industry, and stepped into a new role as an Artist Development and Booking Manager.
