Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaya Moore.
Hi Kaya, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started baking and cooking at home at a young age with my grandma. I loved helping out in the kitchen. My grandma taught me a variety of skills from chucking corn to snapping green peas to finely chopping vegetables. From there I started helping nearly every night to cook dinner at home. I would even make my friends and family treats for their birthdays (like Oreo pudding pie). At church, my mom ran a concession table to fundraise money for our youth and little flock department. There me and my siblings sold and packed small snacks like cookies, candies and drinks. As I entered the work field I chose food service starting at six flags white waters at the dip n dots stand in the very front. This is where my food service adventure began.
From there, I worked many jobs including Zaxby’s, Hooters, The Cheesecake Factory and Six Flags Over Georgia.
In Fall of 2019, I started my buisness KyMadeItKitchen. My first sells were dinner plates I made at home which sold well. One day while working my previous job as a cook at Hooters of Conyers a coworker requested I make them a 2 layer German chocolate cake for their birthday. It came out amazing and I did everything from scratch. Everyone loved it. Next thing I knew I was getting swarmed with orders from other coworkers for their birthday cakes. I made about 4 more custom orders before venturing out and experimenting with my own sweet creations. In March of 2021, I changed the name of my business to KayaAnnsKitchen after my first and middle name Kaya Ebreann. I love the southern ring it has to it.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Starting my business, I have met a few challenges that I am still working to overcome. The first obstacle being planning and organizing. I currently run my Buisness independently so planning and organizing can get frustrating or overbearing when taking on too many task at once. Another obstacle for me is networking and gaining exposure. My shyness sometimes hinders me from approaching a potential customer or talking to the owner of a restaurant. Luckily I have friends and family that help push me to be bolder and more confident.
The last obstacle id like to talk about is funding my buisness. So far everything I’ve put into Business has been funded by me personally and help from family and friends. I am currently working on getting a small Buisness loan so that I can buy a food trailer and kitchen. I have such big plans for multiple food trucks to travel and serve at the same time.
We’ve been impressed with KayaAnnsKitchen, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Everything that comes out of KayaAnnsKitchen is made from scratch with love every time. I specialize in comfort food & desserts. I make cakes, cupcakes, pies, puddings and the list is ever growing. I’m known for my cream cheese frosting that isn’t too sweet and taste like cheesecake. I am different than others because I’m not afraid to step out of the box and add my extra touch. There is always room for improvement and I am forever looking for ways to improve my products.
